Lance Stroll over crash met Verstappen: "Zag hem niet in bocht 1"

Lance Stroll en Max Verstappen hadden een goede dag tot de twee elkaar aanreden in bocht 1. De 23-jarige Red Bull Racing-coureur zag de coureur van Racing Point wel, maar dacht dat hij aan zijn trage ronde bezig was. Achteraf bleek dat Stroll nog een snelle ronde wilde rijden, daar hield Verstappen alleen geen rekening mee.

Om te beginnen opent Stroll het gesprek over de eerste vrije training. Veel coureurs hadden last van de wind en het nieuwe asfalt. Voor Lance Stroll was het balanceren van de auto lastig, omdat er geen grip was. “Het was een lastige dag omdat het geen gemakkelijke baan was en de grip ver te zoeken was. Alle coureurs hadden het daar moeilijk mee. We weten waar we moeten verbeteren in termen van de balans van de auto, dus we gaan weg om te brainstormen en komen terug met wat ideeën om morgen sterker te zijn. Het is een geweldig circuit en de lay-out is erg leuk - ik wou dat het wat meer grip had! Maar aan de andere kant betekent dat dat het een uitdaging is om over te rijden en fouten worden meteen bestraft, dus dat maakt het een heel spannend voor de fans”, zo zegt hij tegenover Sky.

Voor Lance is het over

Stroll sloot het gesprek af over het incident met Max. De twee heren werden om 18:00 bij de stewards geroepen, maar beiden kregen geen straf. “Het incident met Max was ongelukkig. We hebben het besproken en alles is uitgepraat. Ik denk niet dat Max verwachtte dat ik voor een tweede snelle ronde zou gaan en daarom en zag daarom niet dat er iemand naast me zat in bocht 1. Omdat hij me in de laatste bocht van de vorige ronde had laten gaan, dacht ik dat hij in het gat achter mij zou blijven, maar dat deed hij niet en we kwamen uiteindelijk samen, wat we beiden niet hadden verwacht. Het is afgehandeld door de stewards en we kunnen er zand over heen gooien.”

  Stroll liegt hij haalt eerst Max in in zijn snelle ronde dan weet je dat Max terugkomt hij kijkt ook naar links hij weet dat hij daar zit en gaat vol gas op bocht 1 aan daar had Max van zijn gas moeten gaan hij zit niet op de race lijn volkomen Max zijn fout.Zou trouwens wel fijn zijn als de FIA max gaat straffen voor al dat gescheld dat is echt nergens voor nodig tuurlijk mag je iets zeggen maar dit is de over trefende trap en dat is bijna in iedere training.

Stroll was zeker niet volledig hersteld van blabla. Vanaf het einde van Stroll laatste rondje zat Verstappen er al naast, dus zou het een concentratie-probleem kunnen zijn bij een nog niet 100% fitte Stroll. Gelukkig voor Verstappen, die met deze actie wel een gridstraf verdiend had, waarchijnlijk ‘gered’ om een eventuele spanning in de wedstrijd te behouden.....
