Lando Norris grapt: "Wij zijn goed op de slechte circuits"

McLaren had in het begin van het seizoen een hele goede auto, maar zakte door het seizoen heen verder terug. De verbeteringen die op de auto’s werden doorgevoerd, kregen geen beloning. Uiteindelijk heeft McLaren de juiste update gevonden en is de auto weer competitief.

Voor Lando Norris dus een goed moment om zich te bewijzen in Portugal. De eerste vrije training was vooral het circuit onder de knie krijgen. De tweede vrije training werd wat verstoord, maar uiteindelijk kon er wat geoefend worden. De tweede vrije training lukte het Norris zelfs om op P3 te eindigen. Hij verwachtte echter niet deze snelheid tijdens de kwalificatie te hebben, maar toch wist hij zich op P8 te kwalificeren achter zijn teamgenoot Carlos Sainz. Daar was de jonge Brit blij mee. “We zijn redelijk competitief, denk ik. Gezien de moeilijkheden die we hebben gehad. Het verbaast me dat we als team P7 en P8 zijn, maar ik denk dat we een slechte dag... van een moeilijke dag hebben gemaakt, dus ik ben redelijk gelukkig en we kunnen vooruit.”

Er is niet veel info over het circuit. Het inhalen op dit circuit zal niet makkelijk worden, maar Norris hoopt op het beste. “We weten niet hoe het inhalen is, we weten niet hoe de degradatie is. Dus een beetje van het onbekende, maar we zullen ons best doen. De Renault ligt niet ver achter ons. We zijn het dichtst bij Mercedes geweest sinds een lange tijd en iedereen heeft het moeilijk en hoewel we het moeilijk hebben, zijn we goed in rijden op slechte circuits. We hebben een goed tempo, maar we moeten de andere auto's achter ons houden.”

Ik vind t Mclaren duo het perfecte bewijs dat er niet meer in de auto zit... 0,005 seconden verschil. Is toch anders bij Russel en Latifi... maar weer even een pak slaag van 0,8 seconden

  Of er niet meer in de auto zit weet je niet, misschien haalt Hamilton, Verstappen of Leclerc nog wel een paar tienden meer uit die auto. Wel kun je de conclusie trekken dat ze beide aan elkaar gewaagd zijn.
