Kevin Magnussen zal niet teamgenoot Max Verstappen worden

De huidige F1-coureurs van Haas zijn op zoek naar een stoeltje voor 2021. Het Amerikaanse team maakte vorige week bekend niet door te gaan met Grosjean en Magnussen, die daardoor moeten uitkijken naar een nieuwe werkgever. Haas zal volgend jaar vermoedelijk met Mick Schumacher en Nikita Mazepin aan de start verschijnen.

Romain Grosjean is zoekende naar zijn opties voor volgend jaar: "Ik heb nog geen nieuws over de toekomst. Ik zal niet zeggen dat het mijn eerste optie is om reservecoureur te worden in de F1, aangezien ik dat al heb gedaan en het hangt af van het team. Het is moeilijk om naar een race te komen wetende dat je niet gaat racen."

Volgende stap in carrière

Magnussen was ook al eerder reservecoureur, bij McLaren in 2015. Hij zei vrijdag dat het lastig is om naar een Grand Prix te komen en te moeten toekijken: "Ik ben een racer en ik moet racen om gemotiveerd en positief te blijven."

"Ik zit al zeven of acht jaar in de Formule 1 en ik voel me klaar om de volgende stap in mijn carrière te zetten. Het zou cool geweest zijn om het in de Formule 1 te doen, maar ik heb het gevoel dat ik opnieuw moet vechten voor kampioenschappen, overwinningen en pole positions."

Magnussen en Verstappen

Sommige F1-experts hebben Magnussen onlangs in verband gebracht met de Red Bull-stoel van Alex Albon voor 2021, maar hij geeft toe dat het niet waarschijnlijk is. Magnussen: "Ik heb zeven jaar geprobeerd mezelf aantrekkelijk te maken. Maar het is niet altijd genoeg om zelf te denken dat het is gelukt."

Niet waarschijnlijk is geen keiharde ontkenning, precies zoals veel politieke spelletjes gespeeld worden in F1.

Kortom? We weten pas wie er in 2021 in de 2e bull zit bij de 1e race in 2021.

In de week voor de opening van het seizoen wist Jos pas dat hij vervangen werd door Heinz Harald Frentzen bij Arrows.
Contracten zeggen dus niets.

Vanmiddag zal Albon toch echt de race van zijn leven moeten rijden, maar ik vrees voor hem dat hij weer op een rondje of meer wordt gereden en dat is niet goed genoeg.

  Of juist wel. Expert in "altijd gelijk willen hebben". Je maakt als journalist een lijstje met alle mogelijkheden die er zijn. Brengt elke dag een ander gerucht naar buiten. En als het dan bevestigd wordt quote je je eigen tekst van het bericht dat je toen de wereld in geholpen hebt en roep je om het hards dat je gelijk had.
