Weinig kans op terugkeer in de F1 voor Rus Sergey Sirotkin

Sergey Sirotkin heeft aangegeven dat zijn kansen om terug te keren naar de Formule 1-grid niet erg reëel zijn. Na slechts één seizoen verloor de Rus eind vorig jaar zijn racestoeltje bij Williams, maar hij dient nog steeds als reservecoureur van Renault.

Sirotkin vertelde het Russische Sportbox zelfs dat reservecoureurs in het corona-tijdperk eerder een eenmalige kans hebben om te racen. Hij zegt: "Het werk is niet anders dan voorheen, behalve dat het logistiek moeilijker is, maar ook de hoop om achter het stuur te kruipen is iets hoger dan onder normale omstandigheden."

De 25-jarige kijkt echter al verder dan de Formule 1 en racet dit jaar al in een door de fabriek ondersteunde Ferrari 488 GT3. "We willen meer betrokken raken bij alle Ferrari-projecten", zei Sirotkin, een ervaren coureur in het SMP Racing-programma.

"Op dit moment focus ik mij in mijn carrière op dat waarschijnlijk de meest correcte beslissing. Het is beter om hoogwaardige relaties op te bouwen voor de lange termijn dan om jeugddromen van de Formule 1 na te jagen, dat is op dit moment niet realistisch."

Vertrek Kvyat uit de F1

Een andere Russische coureur die ook aan het einde van 2020 waarschijnlijk uit de Formule 1 wil stappen, is Daniil Kvyat, die bij Alpha Tauri lijkt te worden vervangen door Yuki Tsunoda.

"Ik wil nog steeds hopen dat Dani in staat is om zijn hoge niveau en karakter met leiderschap te tonen met een aantal sterke prestaties", zei Sirotkin. "Het is niet de moeite waard om er nu over te praten dat het een vaststaand feit is dat hij vertrekt."

  Jezelf in een spotlight rijden bij Williams is natuurlijk onmogelijk. Feit dat ie bij Renault mocht Testen zei ook wel iets toch

Ik pleit al jaren voor zo min mogelijk Russen met dikke geldbuidels in de F1. Ben dus blij dat Sirotkin niet terug zou keren.
