Lando Norris blij met race na slechte kwalificatie

Lando Norris had een matige kwalificatie, zo zei hij na de kwalificatie tegenover Sky Sports. De race had echter een ander wending, want de Brit finishte als vierde. Hiermee doet het team goede zaken in het kampioenschap, zijn teamgenoot finishte als vijfde.

Lando Norris zag de crash van Romain Grosjean in zijn spiegels en benadrukt de veiligheid van de auto’s en het goede werk van de FIA. "Allereerst ben ik blij te zien dat Romain niet ernstig gewond is geraakt. Het was goed om te zien hoe hij uit de auto stapte en het bewijst hoe veilig de sport is geworden dankzij het werk van de F1 en de FIA samen met de teams. Nogmaals, de Halo heeft bewezen dat het levens redt, en ik weet zeker dat we nog meer van dit ongeluk zullen leren en de sport nog veiliger zullen maken. De moed van de marshalls en de bemanning van de medische auto was ook absoluut ongelooflijk."

Goed herstel

De coureur had natuurlijk ook nog wat over zijn race te zeggen. "Het was een hele goede race!", zo vertelde hij tegen Sky Sports. "De eerste keer dat ik denk dat we dat in lange tijd hebben gehad. Ik denk dat alles voor ons vrijwel perfect is verlopen."

"Beide starts waren erg goed, wat ons een sterke positie bezorgde voor de Renaults. Dat was echt tof! Er was niet veel meer in de race qua momenten. Ik weet dat er veel actie was, maar ik denk dat we gewoon een goede strategie hadden en deden wat we moesten doen. Mijn race was niet saai, maar het was vrij eenvoudig en we hielden vast aan ons plan en concentreerden ons op onszelf. Dat was alles wat we in het begin wilden doen en dat is wat we deden, dus ik ben blij dat het allemaal zijn vruchten heeft afgeworpen. Goede punten, vierde en vijfde - een van onze beste resultaten als team. Een goed herstel van gisteren."

Zonder consequenties een voorvleugel vervangen die op half 11 stond tijdens de neutralisatie, de twee plekken die je verloor na de tweede bocht weer terugkrijgen bij de herstart en Perez die voor hem weg viel. Dan mag je toch van geluk spreken.
En nou die derde plek binnen hengelen!

Mclaren lijkt er eindelijk in te slagen een auto op de grid te krijgen die tov de kwalificatie verbetert. Daar werken ze al anderhalf jaar aan en na een hele sterke pace in Turkije, was die in Bahrein opnieuw prima. Reed de tweede stint dezelfde tijden als Albon en Perez, dus dat was prima.
Kers op de taart was natuurlijk het uitvallen van Perez.

  Moet gezegd dat ik bovendien Mclaren een héél "aimabel" team vindt.
  En dan kijk ik verder dan de 2 piloten.
  
  Ik gun het hen enorm en ben stiekem (als doorwinterde Ferrari fan) mee voor hen aan het juichen.

  Grappige is, dat ik.met Ferrari precies hetzelfde heb. Heb ze in de tijd van MSC-Hakkinnen wel eens vervloekt, maar ik vind Ferrari nu een prachtig team :)

  in de periode MSC-Hakinnen wilde ik McLaren vervloeken, heel graag zelfs, maar ik kon het niet omdat ik Mika zo'n leuke coureur vond :)
