Nicolas Todt: "Ik heb niet zoveel macht binnen Ferrari"

De zoon van Jean Todt grinnikt bij suggesties dat hij macht heeft bij Ferrari. Nicolas Todt (links op de foto), de zoon van de voormalige Ferrari-teambaas en nu FIA-president Jean Todt, is de manager van Charles Leclerc.

Nu Sebastian Vettel het Italiaanse team verlaat en Leclerc duidelijk de nummer 1 is waar het om draait in Maranello, geloven sommigen dat de Todts de situatie bij Ferrari eenvoudigweg vanuit politiek oogpunt hebben opgelost.

"Ik vind dit grappig", zei Nicolas tegen de krant Corriere della Sera toen hem daarnaar werd gevraagd. "Ik moet erom lachen. Ik ken Mattia Binotto sinds 1995 en ik verdedig de belangen van Charles, en het valt toevallig samen met de belangen van Ferrari. We hebben een gezamenlijk doel."

Nicolas ontkende ook dat hij zijn positie heeft verworven omdat zijn vader de voormalig teambaas is van Ferrari. Todt managede in het verleden namelijk ook Felipe Massa: "Dat is ook onzin. Die mensen vergeten dat ik ook betrokken was bij de carrière van Felipe Massa, en hij was niet de favoriet tegen Alonso.

"Ik werk ook niet alleen met Ferrari, ik werk met veel coureurs, en geen van de teams heeft ooit geklaagd."

Tot slot zegt Nicolas Todt dat hij en zijn vader zelden over Formule 1 praten. "Heel weinig. Ik vraag hem zelden om advies, maar als ik dat doe, is dat omdat ik het advies van mijn vader nodig heb."
