Andreas Seidl: "Onrealistische gedachte dat de F1 nieuwe motorleveranciers krijgt"

Honda vertrekt na 2021 uit de Formule 1 als motorleverancier waardoor er slechts 3 leveranciers over blijven; Mercedes, Ferrari en Renault. Al enige tijd is er een lokroep om meer fabrikanten naar de F1 te halen en twee geïnteresseerde partijen zijn Porsche en Volkswagen.

Zoals het er nu naar uitziet, heeft het alleen zin dat nieuwe fabrikanten in 2026 instappen, want dan wordt het motorreglement herzien. Nu instappen zou simpelweg te veel geld kosten en de komende jaren niet winstgevend zijn. Er moet iets veranderen, aldus McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl, die heeft aangegeven niet te verwachten dat Porsche in 2022 wordt toegelaten.

Geschiedenis Seidl en Porsche

Seidl werkte bij Porsche voordat hij bij McLaren aantrad als teambaas. Seidl: "Natuurlijk kan ik niet voor Porsche spreken. Maar als je naar het totaalbeeld kijkt, is het vanuit mijn perspectief op dit moment niet realistisch dat een nieuwe fabrikant de komende jaren aan de Formule 1 gaat deelnemen."

"De investering die er nu gedaan moet worden, samen met de tijd die het kost, is te hoog en te lang om tot een competitief pakket te komen."

Dit is iets waar de Formule 1 samen met de teams en de FIA serieus naar moet kijken zodat de drempel om in te stappen lager wordt. Dit zou het immers aantrekkelijker maken voor nieuwe fabrikanten om de stap te zetten.

Hij vervolgt: "De Formule 1 zou samen met de FIA en de teams, evenals de motorfabrikanten en potentiële nieuwe fabrikanten, een duidelijk plan moeten ontwikkelen van wat de volgende evolutie van motorregels zal zijn. Ik denk dat dat de belangrijkste vraag is die moet worden beantwoord voordat we ook kunnen kijken naar nieuwe potentiële leveranciers."

De oplossing is simpel. Loslaten van dat groene gedoe. De nieuwe motor moet simpeler, luider, maar vooral veel goedkoper zijn dan de V6 hybrid. Ga terug naar een ICE met een standaard Kers ondersteuning mocht je toch nog iets " groens" in je auto willen hebben. De Ice mag een V8 of V10 of V12 zijn voor mijn part, turbo erop of niet, laat veel meer vrij dan nu het geval is.

  Voor mij hoef de motor echt niet luider te zijn. Maar wel goedkoper en eenvoudiger. En dan kom je vaker op een v6 of v8, met, evt. met elektrisch ondersteunde, dubbele turbo uit.
