Prominente namen in verband gebracht met Red Bull-motoren

Red Bull gaat nu in volle vaart vooruit met het eerder deze week aangekondigde eigen motorenprogramma. De energiedrankenfabrikant heeft een eigen motorendivisie in het leven geroepen, Red Bull Powertrains genaamd, om vanaf volgend jaar de Honda-motoren in eigen beheer te nemen. Het Japanse automerk trekt zich immers na 2021 terug uit de Formule 1.

Voor een eigen motorenproject had Red Bull nog wel de invoering van een engine freeze - het bevriezen van de ontwikkeling van de motoren - vanaf 2022 nodig. Daar bereikte de Formule 1 Commissie vorige week een akkoord over, waardoor Red Bull de plannen nu allemaal in een concrete vorm kan gieten. Zo verandert gebouw 8 op de Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes in een werkplaats voor de motoren.

Red Bull heeft echter ook personeel nodig voor het onderhoud en de installatie van de krachtbronnen. Motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko: "We nemen wat Honda-werknemers over, maar verder is het in deze wereld normaal om mensen van de concurrentie te lokken." Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner voegt toe: "Naast de leden van Honda zullen we de komende weken en maanden invulling geven aan andere posities. De deal met Honda verschaft ons de tijd om daar de juiste mensen voor te vinden."

Prominente namen

Het geruchtencircuit is echter al op volle stoom geraakt. Zo wordt bijvoorbeeld Andy Cowell, die jarenlang bij Mercedes verantwoordelijk is geweest voor de succesvolle aandrijflijn, gelinkt aan Red Bull Powertrains. Horner denkt niet dat de Brit aan de slag gaat bij het motorenproject van Red Bull. "Andy is fundamenteel geweest voor het succes van de motorenafdeling van Mercedes. Maar van wat ik ervan begrijp, is hij op zoek naar uitdagingen buiten de Formule 1.

De kans dat Mario Illien, een andere voormalig Mercedes-motorenchef, op een of andere manier betrokken raakt bij Red Bull Powertrains is groter. Marko: "We hebben nog geen knopen doorgehakt, maar het is zeker niet uitgesloten als het aankomt op support, bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van testbanken voor enkele cilinders." Illien verleende eerder hulp bij het project van Honda en werd ook ingeschakeld toen het tussen Red Bull Racing en de vorige motorleverancier Renault niet zo boterde.

  Nee hoor. De titel geeft keurig weer dat Gary Anderson in dit geval, enkele prominenten in verband brengt met het redbull motoren programma.
  
  De titel klopt als een bus. Dat Gary Anderson er lekker op los speculeert is dan weer een ander verhaal

Nou met die Renault motoren werd geen succes met Illien. Ondanks dat Mario zeker zeer kundig is. Maar misschien dat hem wel lukt om de Honda cilinders juist uit te vijlen?! :-)

  The McLaren MP4-19 is a Formula One racing car that was built by McLaren for the 2004 season. The chassis was designed by Adrian Newey, Paddy Lowe, Pat Fry, Mike Coughlan and Peter Prodromou with Mario Illien designing the bespoke Ilmor engine. The car was driven by Kimi Räikkönen and David Coulthard. It was described as a "debugged version" of the ill-fated McLaren MP4-18, but it was not a successful car. The team suffered various problems concerning reliability at the beginning of the season, with eight retirements in five races.
