Fernando Alonso niet aanwezig tijdens onthulling 2021-auto

Fernando Alonso is de nieuwe aanwinst voor het 2021-seizoen van Alpine F1, maar de coureur zal niet aanwezig zijn tijdens de presentatie van de nieuwe auto op 2 maart.

Waarschijnlijk heeft het te maken met het ongeluk dat de Spanjaard had in Zwitserland. Hij werd door een auto geschept en moest hierdoor naar het ziekenhuis. De coureur zal dus pas in Bahrein zijn officiële debuut maken voor het team. Dat werd duidelijk bij de plannen voor de virtuele lancering van de nieuwe A521 van Alpine. Het team zei dat Alonso volgende week niet zou deelnemen aan media-activiteiten. "Het spijt ons te moeten bevestigen dat Fernando Alonso bij deze gelegenheid niet aanwezig zal zijn voor de media Q&A", aldus het team. "De covid-situatie en de bijbehorende regelgeving staan hem niet toe om communicatie- en marketingactiviteiten te doen terwijl hij bezig is met zijn kritieke seizoensvoorbereiding. We zullen in plaats daarvan een Q&A publiceren met Fernando voor mediagebruik en hij zal beschikbaar zijn voor media in Bahrein voor officiële pre-season tests."

De virtuele onthulling, die te volgen is op YouTube, zal plaatsvinden in Engeland. Alonso werkt momenteel aan een herstel en aan zijn fitheid. Door het ongeluk heeft hij vertraging opgelopen en kan hij niet in quarantaine. Dit is verplicht om het VK in te reizen. Esteban Ocon zal wel aanwezig zijn, evenals de nieuwe teambaas.

Die quarantaine regels kunnen wel een flinke nadeel zijn voor coureurs van de in engeland gevestigde teams (coureurs die in het buitenland wonen ) , hoe zit het dan met de auto,s en onderdelen ?

  Mijn auto heeft soms last van een motormanagement (turbodruk valt soms weg), en ik kan je vertellen dat ik daar flink ziek van ben.

  Haha snap ik , maar personeel moet toch ook reizen ? Of blijft bijv Newey op de fabriek ? En Horner bijv de aankomende paar maanden niet op de fabriek ? , (dat bedoel ik )

  Net als vorig jaar zullen ze tijdig een bubbel maken die kan reizen en eigenlijk in een soort van quarantaine zal moeten blijven.

Het zal voor Alonso niks uitmaken. Beter om op hetstel te richten. Onthulling van de auto is niks meer dan het kleurtje en de sponsoren tonen. De auto zelf gaat qau vleugels, flapjes en vinnetjes toch nog drie keer op de schop voordat de lichten doven in Bahrein.
