Norris over vorm Mercedes: "Ze zien er minder comfortabel uit dan vorig jaar"

Lando Norris is van mening dat Mercedes er minder comfortabel uitziet na de wintertests van 2021 vergeleken met voorgaande seizoenen. Mercedes voltooide het minst aantal ronden van elk team, daar waar zij normaal gesproken de meeste ronden maken. Ook wisten Valtteri Bottas en Lewis Hamilton niet in de buurt te komen van de snelle tijden, en de auto bleek er moeilijk te besturen uit te zien.

"We zullen het moeten afwachten", zo luidt Norris. "Ik wil ook weer niet teveel zeggen, want ze deden wel rondetijden van rond de 1 minuut 30, maar Lewis had wel een aantal spins over de afgelopen dagen dus het ziet er niet ontzettend goed uit voor hen", zo vertelt Norris verder.

"Zelfs al rijden ze met 50 kilogram brandstof of wat dan ook, nog steeds concludeer ik dat ze niet een dusdanig comfortabele wintertest hebben gehad als dat ze in voorgaande seizoenen hebben gehad."

"Misschien is het juist wel een schok voor iedereen omdat iedereen juist verwacht dat Mercedes er comfortabel uit zou zien. Maar, eerlijk gezegd, niks is inmiddels een verrassing. Ik weet het niet, het is pre-season testing, en alles is eigenlijk een beetje gebakken lucht."

Over wie er wel het beste uit zag tijdens de wintertests, daar is Norris enigszins terughoudend in. "De AlphaTauri ziet er prima uit, in verschillende soorten omstandigheden ziet dat er uit als een auto die erg goed gaat. Alle teams zagen er eigenlijk wel oké uit, ik denk dat het veld erg dicht bij elkaar gaat zitten en niemand echt mijlen voor ligt. De Red Bull zag er over het hele weekend wel erg sterk uit, maar dat viel wel te verwachten. We gaan er binnenkort achter komen!", zo concludeert de jonge Brit.

Over acht dagen zal het race-weekend van de Grand Prix van Bahrein van start gaan met de eerste vrije training op het Bahrain International Circuit.

  yup de ideale bliksemafleider, McL staat er geweldig goed voor, als Mercedes de problemen niet onder controle heeft voor de start in Bahrein dan zal McL extra vermogen krijgen om voor RB te eindigen, das Mercedes zn troefkaart waarschijnlijk

Het offensief van Mercedes om Red Bull in te laten slapen gaat verder. Eerst de mening van Mercedes ambassadeur Ralf Schumacher, en nu die van Lando uit het team MacLaren/Mercedes ... Onafhankelijke meningen heb ik nog niet gezien.

"We hebben gelukkig veel beelden tot onze beschikking en daaruit bleek duidelijk dat de wegligging van de auto slecht was. De Red Bull zag er ‘planted’ uit, het was een hele stabiele auto, vooral in de laatste sector van de ronde..
  Andrew Shovlin, Trackside Engineering Director, probeert uit te leggen waar het probleem vandaan komt. "De wind maakte het lastig. Als de wind achter de auto zit dan verlies je veel downforce, omdat de luchtsnelheid lager is. Dus in bepaalde bochten waar de wind van achter kwam hadden we er last van. De banden oververhitten snel op het circuit en als je gaat glijden dan verlies je snel grip en wordt het erger."
  
  Beiden hebben nog geen oplossing voor het probleem.
