Ocon: "Punten scoren enkel mogelijk als we alles uit de auto halen"

Het team van Alpine kan het zich in de eerste fase van dit seizoen niet veroorloven om steekjes te laten vallen. De Franse renstal bevindt zich namelijk aan de achterkant van de middenmoot en heeft geen marge om iets te laten liggen. Dan duikelt Alpine namelijk gelijk naar de posities buiten de punten. Dat bleek in Bahrein en wordt ook onderschreven door coureur Esteban Ocon.

"Het is duidelijk dat we geen speelruimte hebben", opent de Fransman. "Punten scoren is voor ons op dit moment enkel mogelijk als we alles uit de auto halen. We hebben helder voor ogen waar we performance tekort komen en waar we ons moeten verbeteren. We weten waar voor ons de winst te behalen valt. Het is aan ons om meer snelheid te vinden, dan bouwen we meer marge in."

Volgens Ocon is Alpine een van de slachtoffers van de nieuwe reglementen met betrekking tot de nieuwe vloer. "De nieuwe regels hebben veel veranderd voor ons. Iedereen zegt maar dat de reglementen stabiel zijn gebleven, dat er een hoop overgeheveld is van vorig jaar. Het is alleen niet de realiteit. In feite is het meeste van de auto nieuw, in ieder geval voor ons."

"Iedereen heeft veel grip en downforce verloren en alle teams proberen dat nu terug te winnen. Door de reglementswijzigingen is iedereen langzamer dan vorig jaar, wij ook als je het vergelijkt met de auto van 2020. Dus we weten waar we meer rondetijd kunnen vinden en waar we ons kunnen herpakken. Maar het is geen kwestie van signaleren en klaar is kees. We moeten het nu ook echt doen", besluit Ocon.

Als we de topic titel letterlijk nemen hebben we aan het einde van het seizoen dus een tweede Tyrrell schandaal (die reden met een te lichte auto en voegden loden balletjes toe bij het tanken. Zullen dus nu heel zware velgen worden bij de laatste pitstop)

Dat is een beetje hetzelfde als wanneer je alles uit de kast haalt.
Het klinkt hartstikke leuk, maar uiteindelijk zit je daar met de hele teringzooi.

Voor mijn part rijdt Alonso Ocon aan pulp. Ik moet Alonso niet, maar ik moet Occon nog veel minder, wat een onrespectvolle hansworst is me dat toch.
