Daniel Ricciardo verslaat McLaren-teamgenoot Lando Norris: "Fijn om er weer te staan"

Daniel Ricciardo lijkt zich steeds beter thuis te gaan voelen in zijn McLaren. Vandaag kwam hij als zesde over de eindstreep, terwijl zijn teamgenoot Lando Norris als achtste de finish van de Spaanse Grand Prix bereikte.

Daniel Ricciardo: "Het was een beter weekend, zoals Jenson Button het zo aardig formuleerde. Ik had flinke problemen. De start ging goed en ik wist voorbij te komen aan wat snellere auto's en daarom moest ik zo'n beetje de hele race verdedigen. Met Checo probeerde ik het zo lang mogelijk uit te houden zo goed als ik kon, maar uiteindelijk had hij mij te pakken. Daarna had ik het aan de stok met Carlos tot het einde van de race."

Wennen

Ricciardo geeft aan dat hij nog altijd wel moet wennen aan zijn nieuwe team en auto, al gaat het steeds beter met hem. Vandaag kwam hij dan ook voor het eerst vóór zijn teamgenoot Lando Norris over de eindstreep.

Gelukkiger

Riciardo is dan ook opgelucht en optimistisch voor de toekomst: "Persoonlijk voel ik mij gelukkiger. Er is nog altijd wat tijd te vinden in de auto en in mijzelf. Het is niet zo vaak dat je zo opgewonden hier aankomt, aangezien we het circuit zo goed kennen. Ik ben vooral zo blij om er weer goed bij te staan na twee jaar. Het is een voorrecht om deze auto te besturen. Ik zie dan ook uit naar de volgende race, het zal een genot zijn om de auto daar te besturen", zo blikt de Australiër alvast vooruit op de volgende Grand Prix in Monaco.

Mee eens. Zonder schade in Q1 had hij een veel beter kwalificatie resultaat kunnen halen en dus een betere uitgangspositie voor de race.

Ricciardo komt steeds beter in vorm, dat is mooi om te zien.
Ferrari was dit weekend een maatje te groot voor Mclaren ,dit in combinatie met een kwalificatie die niet optimaal was, zorgt ervoor dat Mclaren het maximale eruit heeft gehaald wat erin zat.

De geïntroduceerde updates dit weekend, hebben ze nog niet 100% werkend gekregen, als het goed is zit er nog wat meer performance in het vat.

Hopen dat Ricciardo zijn stijgende lijn doorzet en dat Norris zijn vorm van de eerste 3 races weer op weet te pakken. Dat gaat sowieso een spannende strijd worden voor de derde plek in het WCC dit jaar.

  Norris was goed bezig, had wel pech bij de qualificatie. En dat heb een aantal plekkies gekost, dus uiteindelijk beetje mazzel voor Ricciardo

  Ah! Dat was de reden dat Norris wat minder was in kwalificatie. Wist ik niet. Thanks. Ik dacht al. Daar heb je de wisselvalligheid van vorige jaren weer.
