Fernando Alonso's finisht als twaalfde tijdens thuisrace in Catalonië

Alpine-coureurs Fernando Alonso en Esteban Ocon konden geen potten breken tijdens de Spaanse Grand Prix. Ocon finishte als negende en pakt punten, terwijl Fenando Alonso als twaalde over de streep kwam tijdens zijn thuisrace in Spanje.

Esteban Ocon vertelt dat het was alsof hij in de schoolbankjes zat vandaag. "Er was het een en ander te leren vandaag", begint de Franse coureur.

Ocon: "Ik denk dat we niet zo snel als de Ferrari's waren vandaag en we kwamen ook wat snelheid tekort op de McLarens. Dus we waren vandaag een stukje minder sterk als tijdens de kwalificatie, maar over het algemeen was het een positief weekend. De negende plaats is niet ideaal, maar we hebben dingen geleerd vandaag", vertelt Ocon die zegt uit te zien naar de Grand Prix van Monaco.

Fernando Alonso vertelt, net als na de vorige Grand Prix, dat hij plezier heeft gehad tijdens de race. Alonso: "Het was leuk. Het was wel moeilijk want wat verder achterin het veld ben je altijd wel in gevecht met iemand waardoor je uiteindelijk teveel vergt van je banden en dus ook van je strategie."

Eén-stopper werkte niet

We probeerden iets anders met een één-stop-strategie en dat was achteraf gezien misschien iets te optimistisch als je nu het resultaat bekijkt. We wilden namelijk heel graag dat punt pakken en we lagen met nog vijf ronden te gaan op de tiende plaats, maar er was uiteindelijk geen houden aan om de mensen achter mij te houden."

Dat vind ik geen goed argument. Nu staat dit even los van Alonso, want ik zou bijvoorbeeld eerder Rossi als voorbeeld willen nemen. Rossi's prestaties zijn niet meer om aan te gluren. Zwalkend op de laatste plaatsen.
Het houdt ergens op. Je gaat ook niet een coureur van 50 in een auto... [Lees verder]

Alonso had niet moeten terugkeren. De beste man is tweevoudig wereldkampioen en dan verwacht je niet dat hij op een troosteloze 17de plek eindigt.

  Ik vind Alonso en Raikkonen nog niet te oud, maar bv Rossi is echt zwaar overdatum nu.

  Volgens mij was ie twaalfde, en ze boeken echt wel vooruitgang bij Alpine. Hun strategie nekte ze. Ik kan me wel voorstellen dat hij er lol in heeft. Hij is er ook niet heen gegaan met het idee kampioen te worden oid maar om iets te bouwen.

  Ik snap wat je bedoelt, maar aan de andere kant: ik denk niet dat een atleet die zichzelf nog geschikt acht deel te nemen, daar nog plezier aan beleeft en de gelegenheid voor krijgt, zou moeten stoppen om zijn statistieken en reputatie daarmee gebaat zijn.
  
  Sowieso heb ik het idee dat statistieken voor 'ons nerds' veel interessanter zijn dan voor de atleten zelf.
  
  Enerzijds is het pijnlijk om Rossi zo te zien afglijden, anderzijds: wat moet die vent nu anders gaan doen met zijn tijd?
  
  Ik zag vroeger (waarschijnlijk onterecht) de DTM vroeger als een leuke mix was van jong talent (zie: Albers, Di Resta) en goede middenmoters (bijv long-time McLaren-testrijder Gary Paffett) en tevens fungeerde als rusthuis voor F1-coureurs op leeftijd (bijv. Hakkinen).

Alonso heeft iig plezier gehad.
Ik krijg de indruk dat de scherpe kantjes er vanaf zijn en het een beetje richting de vergane glorie dreigt te gaan.
Maar goed, er komt nog een aardig zwikje races.
