Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko: "Overwinning in Oostenrijk waarschijnlijker dan in Frankrijk"

Dr. Helmut Marko, zelf ooit autocoureur en in een nóg verder verleden gepromoveerd in de rechten, zegt dat het waarschijnlijker is dat Red Bull Racing met Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez kan winnen in Oostenrijk, dan in Frankrijk.

Marko ziet het dus nog niet gelijk gebeuren dat zondag het Wilhelmus zal klinken op het podium in Paul Ricard, al zal hij dat nooit hard uitspreken. En dus zegt Marko dat de fans van Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez hun hoop het beste kunnen zetten op winst in de achtertuin van Red Bull, de Red Bull Ring bij Spielberg.

Morgen beginnen de eerste traingen op Paul Ricard waar dit weekend de Formule 1 Grand Prix van Frankrijk op het programma staat.

Mercedes verwacht weer terug aan de top te zijn nu de stratencircuits zijn gereden, Lewis Hamilton 'voelt zich goed' en Max Verstappen weet ook dat de Red Bull-bolide beter tot z'n recht komt in Oostenrijk. Red Bull Racing heeft dus een uitdaging, volgens Marko zal het allemaal erg aan elkaar gewaagd zijn en zullen de Verstappen en Hamilton dicht op elkaar zitten.

Helmut Marko zegt tegen het RTL: "Het wordt krap tussen die twee."

Hij tempert de verwachtingen rondom de kans op een overwinning voor Verstappen, maar er gloort een zekere hoop, vertelt hij.

Marko: "Ik hoop dat hij kan winnen in Oostenrijk waar we de drie opeenvolgende raceweekenden zullen afsluiten. Dat lijkt mij wat realistischer."

Red Bull krijgt dit weekend een nieuwe Honda-aandrijving. De Japanse fabrikant maakte bekend dat de krachtbron vanaf nu een andere naam krijgt.

Hopelijk kan RB goed scoren in Oostenrijk, van Frankrijk heb ik ook mindere verwachtingen. Het enigste voordeel tot nu toe is alleen als RB de betere is op een bepaald circuit dat Perez ook voor Hamilton staat. Hierdoor zou het best kunnen dat je een 1-2 pakt in Oostenrijk en 2e kunt worden in Frankrijk. Er komen nog genoeg circuits aan waar Mercedes beter zal zijn, maar mits het doorgaat denk ik dat de laatste 5 circuits wel 4 RB banen zijn. En Abu Dhabi meer een Mercedes baan. Jammer dat Max afgelopen week uitviel anders had je een marge van 2 races. Gelukkig scoorde Hamilton 0 punten en sta je er nog 4 voor. Het is eigenlijk jammer dat de regels volgend jaar veranderen. Net nu alle teams in elkaar gaan schuiven.

Als je kampioen wilt worden moet je ook in Frankrijk minimaal 2e worden. Gewoon elke race uitspreken dat je vol voor de winst gaat. Laat dat onderhond gezeik maar aan dat andere team over. Vol ervoor gaan en de borst vooruit.

  Had hem net nog even aan de telefoon. Hij was het er mee eens maar zei dat dit allemaal bij het spelletje hoort. Hij zei ook dat de nieuwe honda krachtbron iedereen gaat verrassen en dat die nu sterker is dan de Mercedes motor.
