Norris racet niet meer online met Verstappen: "Golfen is gezonder"

In zijn vrije tijd heeft Lando Norris zijn simracing-stuurtje omgeruild voor een golfstick. De jonge Brit wil meer genieten van de buitenlucht tijdens een potje golf.

De McLaren-coureur reed in het recente verleden vaak samen met Max Verstappen in de virtuele racewereld voor Team Redline. Norris legt tegen de NOS uit waarom het simracen op een lager pitje staat. "Max en ik hadden veel plezier en wonnen ook samen een virtuele 24-uursrace. Dat was geweldig. Hij is een aardige gast en we hebben een klik, maar ik heb nu mijn eigen e-sportteam Quadrant en dat maakt het wat ingewikkelder. Ik weet zeker dat we ooit samen online zullen racen. Redline is een leuke groep mensen en ik maak er nog steeds een beetje deel van uit, maar ik ben minder bezig met het simracen."

Dat was in 2020 wel anders door de uitstel van het Formule 1-seizoen en de lock downs. Thuisvermaak was het enige wat overbleef en dan is een stap richting de simulator geen grote. Via zijn eigen Twitch-kanaal konden fans meegenieten. En Norris was dan ook vaak online in die periode.

“Vanwege de coronapandemie waren we verplicht om lang binnen te zitten en toen was virtueel racen een leuk tijdverdrijf. Nu ben ik overgestapt op golf. Ik ben nog best slecht en zal nooit een Tiger Woods worden, maar ik rijd net zo op de holes zoals ik doe op de baan ben", grapte de McLaren-coureur.

Hij vervolgt: "Het is gezonder dan de sim. Ik zie meer daglicht en ik ben ook een stuk bruiner dan vroeger."

Op dit moment rijdt Verstappen en zijn teamgenoten voor Team Redline de virtuele 24 uur van Spa-Francorchamps op iRacing. De wedstrijd is live te volgen via Youtube.

Ik dacht serieus dat dit een geintje was. Volgens mij heeft Norris weleens gezegd dat hij golf speelt met Sainz.
Dat was volgens mij ook een online game.
Maar goed blijkbaar lopen ze echt buiten rond.
