Fernando Alonso rijdt weer op instinct

Fernando Alonso zegt dat "alles automatisch gaat" in de Formule 1. Tijdens de eerste races van dit jaar volgde hij nog een voorzichtige aanpak, maar inmiddels stuurt hij weer puur op eigen instinct.

Nat twee jaar afwezigheid in de hoogste tak van autosport keerde de Spanjaard begin dit jaar terug. Die terugkeer was geen gemakkelijke bevalling, maar na een stroef begin is Alonso inmiddels weer op snelheid en verslaat hij zijn jongere teamgenoot Esteban Ocon structureel.

In de eerste vijf races kwam Alonso twee keer niet door de eerste ronde, maar daarna reed hij bij elke Grand Prix de punten binnen door in de top-tien te finishen.

Alonso vertelt tegen Motorsportweek: "Ik voel mij goed en heb nu meer vertrouwen in de auto. Ik denk dat ik aan het begin van het jaar een paar races nodig had om aan alles te wennen, niet alleen de F1 op zich, maar ook aan de Renault."

Aanvankelijk voorzichtig na terugkeer

"In de eerste races was ik heel voorzichtig, ik wilde geen grote fout maken.

"Iedereen zei: 'Laten we eens kijken hoe Fernando het doet want na de verschillende categorieën terugkeren in de F1 zal niet gemakkelijk zijn en bovendien moet hij het opnemen tegen de jongere generaties', en al dat soort uitspraken."

Instinct

In het interview met het medium vertelt Alonso verder: “Ik wilde de races zonder fouten rijden en langzaam het vertrouwen opbouwen, en nu ik meer vertrouwen en meer kennis heb over de auto, over het team, over de banden, kan ik rijden met niet al te veel nadenken. Ik kan gewoon het instinct gebruiken omdat alles automatisch gaat, dus daar ben ik blij mee."

Fernando rijdt heerlijk fris en vrij. Dat hij op zijn leeftijd nog kinderlijk eenvoudig Ocon opzij zet, terwijl eerdere teamgenoten heel veel moeite met Esteban hadden, bewijst hoe goed hij nog is.

  Euhm ik weet niet hoor... maar Ricciardo vrat Ocon gewoon met huid en haar op. Dat verschil was echt enorm.
  
  Tussen Perez & Ocon was het close inderdaad. Maar "eerdere teamgenoten" gaat dus niet helemaal op.

  Viel wel mee. Perez had er moeite mee en Daniël ook.
  Daniël zat na een lastig eerste Renault jaar eindelijk in een betere flow en was opgewonden dat hij naar McLaren ging.
  Esteban was nieuw na een jaar aan de zijlijn in een nieuwe auto.
  Hij kende 4 DNF’s tegen 1 voor Daniël. De andere races eindigde hij 75% van de tijd 1 of 2 plekken achter Daniel. Hij zat er dus gelijk al dicht op.
  Uiteindelijk reed Daniël het eerste podium voor Renault op P3. Dat herhaalde hij nog een keer waarna Ocon nog een P2 scoorde. De beste finish voor Renault tot nu toe.
  Ik zag een Daniël die weer een beetje geloof en vorm had gevonden maar ik zag ook terugkerende Ocon die elk weekend heel dicht op Daniël zat en die geenszins een slap of uitgebluste rentree kende.

Terug van weggeweest. Ik was even bang dat ie het vuur en de passie kwijt zou zijn, aangezien ie zich zo sympathiek opstelde als Schumi destijds deed. Het leek bij die laatste te ontbreken aan die scherpe randjes. Fernando presteert echter goed met dat hork. Z'n 'WTF' reactie voor slechts een spot in q3 in Oostenrijk stelt me gerust. De man is nog steeds hongerig.
