Red Bull-baas Christian Horner beseft: "Wij moeten aanvallende race rijden"

Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez starten de Hongaarse Formule 1 Grand Prix vanaf de tweede startrij. Daarbij kijken zij tegen de achterkant van de beide Mercedessen aan.

Terwijl tevoren werd gedacht dat Red Bull Racing goed uit de verf zou moeten kunnen komen op dit bochtige circuit, blijkt de realiteit anders.

Horner: "Mercedes is het hele weekend al snel. Max' tijd in Q2 zag er indrukwekkend uit. Volgens mij had hij in Q3 wat last van turbulente lucht achter Leclerc, want hij zat er drie seconden achter. Het kan wel interessant worden morgen, want wij staan op een hele andere strategie dan Mercedes."

Hamilton zei na de kwalificatie dat het hem verbaasde dat Red Bull om op de zachte band strat. Volgenes Hamilton houden die het "nog geen vijf ronden uit".

Christian Horner vertelt dat zijn team bewust een afwijkende strategie kiest.

Horner: "Wij konden de tijden niet rijden die Lewis vandaag op de medium-band liet zien en daarom hebben wij het over een andere boeg gegooid. Wij moeten een aanvallende race rijden. De strategie zal cruciaal zijn."

Max Verstappen zei kansen te zien om morgen toch nog goed beslagen ten ijs te komen. De baan staat erom bekend dat het weinig mogelijkheden biedt om in te halen.

Verstappen: "Het hele weekeinde lopen we al een beetje achter. We zullen zien hoe het morgen gaat, er zijn kansen."

Het is voor de 101e keer dat Hamilton vanaf de eerste plek een race start.

Max kan het tempo van de Mercs niet volgen op de mediums, dus een andere tactiek is daarom helemaal niet zo'n slecht plan. Minimaal 3e worden gaat zonder fratsen toch wel lukken morgenmiddag, alles hoger is mooi meegenomen dan.

Je staat op 2e rij en een bagger strategie ten op zichte van mercedes. Nee je bent redelijk kansloos hoor. En als een dolle stier starten en weer 0 punten scoren is catastrofaal. Ziet er niet best uit helaas. Mercedes heeft de rollen compleet omgedraaid en als dat na de zomer nog zo is is het kostje weer geklaard. Met banen als Spa en Monza op programma en wrs geen Zandvoort poehh ik begin hem te knijpen.

  @FGRacing: nee hoor, een 2 stopper is snelste op de Hungaroring. Dus het is helemaal geen kut strategie, RBR wist al dat pole er niet in zou zitten en dan kun je beter andere strategie rijden als Mercedes, bij de start kun je wat en verder is het lastig inhalen. Ik schat dat Hamilton net als in Q3 zo langzaam mogelijk zal rijden om een 1 stopper mogelijk te maken. Dus Max moet er na bocht 1 voorzitten anders is ie de sjaak en wordt het taai. Maar: ook op geel weet je zeker dat het aanhaken wordt🤷🏻‍♂️
