Vergne kan het weten: "Monaco minder spannend in F1 dan in FE"

Monaco is een van de kroonjuwelen van de globale autosport. De Formule 1 wedstrijd is niet voor niets onderdeel van de Triple Crown. Maar sinds enkele jaren is de Formule 1 niet meer het enige kampioenschap dan zijn rondjes in Monaco draait, ook het Elektrische broertje, de Formule E, doet dat tegenwoordig.

Jean-Eric Vergne reed van 2011 tot en met 2014 voor Toro Rosso en reed dus een aantal keren over het stratencircuit. In tegenstelling tot zijn Formule 1-praktijken is zijn Formule E avontuur wel een succes. In gesprek met Blackbook gaat de Fransman in op het verschil in Monaco tussen beide klassen: "In de F1 is er veel meer grip. Wanneer je bij het einde van de tunnel met 280 kilometer per uur aankomt rem je bij het 100 meter bordje. We kunnen heel hard remmen."

In de Formule E is dit volgens hem anders: "In de Formule E is de auto zwaar en nog steeds vrij krachtig maar je hebt geen grip. De banden zijn ontworpen voor droog weer maar het zijn geen slicks. Dus hebben we weinig grip." En Monaco is nou eenmaal geen circuit waar je met foutjes weg kan komen.

Vergne zijn Formule 1-carrière was nooit een bijster groot succes. Na vier jaartjes kabbelen bij Toro Rosso werd hij aan de kant geschoven en vervangen door ene Max Verstappen. "Ik denk dat ik het mij in de F1 nooit realiseerde maar soms als achtse, zevende of zesde finishen in een Toro Rosso was een super resultaat. Ik had daar meer tevreden mee moeten zijn." Gelukkig voor Vergne verloopt zijn elektrische loopbaan stukken beter.

Ik beleef Monaco toch anders. Iedere bocht weer de vraag of hij gehaald wordt, met een gemiddelde van 150km/u door het stadje. Monaco is echter weinig veranderd, de F1 wel: bredere wagens met een onwaarschijnlijke grip. Ik kan er van genieten zo eentje met allures per jaar.

Zoals het hier staat was Vergne een prutser in de F1
Ik vond hem behoorlijk kunnen meekomen ook t.o.v. Ricciardo.
Helaas heeft hij nooit een kans gehad bij een ander team.

Het is de klasse waar ze letterlijk de stekker uit kunnen trekken.

Monaco teert op haar allure (m.i. randzaken) maar is wat echte sport- en racebeleving betreft al vele decennia geen kroonjuweel meer.

Voor elke editie hoop ik dat het dit keer wat beter wordt, maar kijk dan ook al uit na de GP daarna.

  @RCM: Mee eens!!! Van Monaco is er maar eentje en natuurlijk is het wel vaak een optocht, maar stuurmanskunst is op deze baan een echte vereiste... Ik geniet er ook elk jaar weer van!

Al die FE coureurs kletsen hetzelfde.. Allemaal FE omhoog praten t.o.v. van F1 om het voor zichzelf goed te praten dat ze in de FE rijden i.p.v. F1.. Maar stiekem willen ze allemaal liever F1 rijden..

F1 mag dan wel veel meer grip hebben, de veel hogere snelheden compenseren dat wel weer qua spanning op een baan als Monaco..

  Inflatable, dit is jouw interpretatie van uitleg van Vergne specifiek over verschil tussen F1 en FE op circuit Monaco. Het gaat hier niet om de FE, maar veel meer om het circuit wat totaal niet meer geschikt is voor de huidige F1.
  Verder is Vergne gewoon eerlijk over de verschillen qua grip.
