Fernando Alonso nog lang niet klaar met de Formule 1

Dat Fernando Alonso lekker bezig is weten we inmiddels wel. Praktisch iedereen heeft dat al vijf keer geroepen en iedereen kijkt dan ook reikhalzend uit naar wat de Spanjaard in petto heeft in Spa. Alleen is Alonso al 40 jaar en de vraag is dan ook hoelang hij nog door kan gaan.

Sommigen waren bang dat Alonso's reflexen wat minder zouden zijn door zijn leeftijd. Natuurlijk ben je op je 40ste geen bejaarde maar weinig topsporters zijn op die leeftijd nog actief. Maar volgens Executive Director Marcin Budkowski maakt dit weinig uit. In gesprek met AS bespreekt hij de leeftijd van zijn superster: "Dit is niet als voetbal of wielrennen. Hier beïnvloedt leeftijd je prestaties niet."

Budkowski verwacht dat Alonso nog wel eventjes in de koningsklasse van de autosport actief zal zijn. "Hij zal hier zeker nog zijn in 2024." Het is nogal een uitspraak van de Executive Director van Alpine. Het is namelijk nog lang en breed niet duidelijk hoe goed de Alpine zal zijn onder de nieuwe reglementen. Ook is Alonso tegen die tijd al 43 lentes jong en niemand weet hoe goed hij dan nog is.

De Spanjaard heeft nog wel eventjes als hij de oudste wereldkampioen ooit wil worden. De legendarische Juan Manuel Fangio werd in 1957 op 46 jarige leeftijd wereldkampioen. In de geschiedenis van de sport werden er naast Fangio maar twee andere coureurs wereldkampioen toen ze 40 jaar of ouder waren. Ook Guiseppe Farina en Jack Brabham wisten dit te voltooien.

  Door zijn snor leek hij ouder misschien? Dat vond ik ook van Ron Jeremy, maar die was nog lang actief met de jonge dames. Was ook topsport.
