Daniel Ricciardo door het dolle na winst op Monza: "Dit zag niemand aankomen"

Daniel Ricciardo is door het dolle heen na zijn eerste overwinning voor McLaren. De Australiër kende een slechte eerste seizoenshelft, maar wint vandaag in een één-twee voor McLaren. De grote smile is niet van het gezicht van Ricciardo te beitelen. "Vrijdag voelde ik al dat er iets aan zat te komen", zegt de McLaren-coureur direct na de race tegen David Coulthard.

Ricciardo zegt direct na de race: "Mag ik vloeken? Ik wil vloeken. Het werd de hoogste tijd. Het ging gisteren al goed, en ondanks dat wij een goede start hadden is dat nooit een garantie dat wij het de hele race zouden uithouden. Om letterlijk te leiden van af start tot finish, ik denk dat echt helemaal niemand dat zag aankomen. Er voelde vrijdag op een of andere manier al dat er mooie dingen aan zaten te komen."

De Australiër gaat zijn 'shoey' weer uitvoeren op het podium, belooft hij. En zulks gebeurt ook. Zak Brown gaat mee naar het podium en de Australiër gaat ervoor zitten. Daar komt de 'shoey' van Daniel Ricciardo: Hij slokt alle moederende wijn uit zijn schoen in grote slokken op. Ook McLaren-teambaas Brown moet eraan geloven, al lijkt de Amerikaan op slimme wijze de boel niet door te slikken.

Schitterend, hoewel telkens onder druk nooit in de problemen en kunnen controleren. De sleutel lag bij de geweldige start, ook zonder de crash van Max zat de winst erin. Daarna de één twee binnenhalen alsof nooit tevoren. Klasse!

  daar is iedereen het over eens, verdiende winnaar, Max had denk ik nooit de aanval echt kunnen inzetten denk ik (pace van beiden voor 1ste stop + outlap van Ricciardo die behoorlijk snel was
