Kvyat heeft hoop: "Te koppig om in 2023 niet terug te keren"

Nu de Russische Grand Prix weer voor de deur staat is het ook weer eens tijd om te kijken hoe het met de Russische coureurs gaat. Vorig jaar stond bijvoorbeeld nog Daniil Kvyat op de grid bij AlphaTauri. Inmiddels is hij neergestreken bij Alpine als reservecoureur.

Het is niet nieuw dat Kvyat genoegen moet nemen met een plekje buiten de Formule 1. In 2018 moest hij ook al toekijken nadat de Red Bull-stal hem had gedumpt bij het grofvuil. Toch hadden ze hem daarna weer nodig want de Rus reed in 2019 en 2020 weer doodleuk zijn rondjes voor Toro Ross/AlphaTauri.

In gesprek met Match TV spreekt hij de hoop uit om wéér terug te keren in de Formule 1: "Ik wil racen. Dus als het niet lukt in 2022 dan ben ik koppig genoeg om in 2023 niet terug te keren." Mocht hij geen Formule 1-stoeltje meer vinden, dan heeft hij al wel iets anders leuks op het oog: "Ik ben geïnteresseerd in Amerika. Ik ben er ook klaar voor om opties in Europa te overwegen. Ik ben er klaar voor om nieuwe dingen te proberen."
