Alonso verwachtte geen pole: "Niet in deze condities"

De spectaculaire kwalificatie in Sotsji kende enkele grote verrassingen. Iemand die niet in staat was op tot een verrassing te komen was Fernando Alonso. De ervaren Spaanse Alpine-piloot kwam niet verder dan de zesde plaats, wel voor de Mercedes van Valtteri Bottas.

Na de kwalificatie verscheen Alonso voor de camera's van zijn vrienden van Sky Sports. Hij denkt niet dat de pole er in zat: "Niet in deze condities. We hoopten op een goed resultaat en ik denk dat we die met de zesde plaats wel hebben behaald. Ik ben heel blij met het resultaat en we gaan morgen zien of we die plek kunnen vast houden."

De tweevoudig wereldkampioen vreest vooral de coureurs die achter hem starten "Verstappen zal heel snel naar voren komen. We zagen Bottas als laatste starten in Monza en op het podium eindigen. Red Bull en Mercedes zitten echt in een andere race."

Ik ben geen Alonso fan maar ik moet bekennen dat hij het ontzettend goed doet, ik had dit niet verwacht!
