Marko opgelucht: "Waren bang na Rusland, Turkije en VS achter te staan"

De Amerikaanse overwinning van Max Verstappen zorgde voor grote vreugde bij zijn team Red Bull Racing. Ook topadviseur Helmut Marko was vol van vreugde en opluchting. Verstappen breidde zijn voorsprong op Lewis Hamilton immers alleen maar uit. Dat was niet geheel wat Red Bull had verwacht.

Voorafgaand de afgelopen de laatste paar races was Mercedes immers de favoriet. In Rusland verwachtte Hamilton zijn voorsprong te kunnen uitbreiden maar dat lukte niet. In Turkije nam Verstappen de leiding in het kampioenschap weer over dankzij een podium en een slechte race van zijn concurrent. In Austin won Verstappen afgelopen weekend en daardoor liep hij ietsje uit.

De voorsprong van Verstappen zorgt voor opluchting bij zijn team Red Bull. Helmut Marko spreekt dat uit in gesprek met het Oostenrijkse ORF: "We waren bang dat we na Rusland, Turkije en de Verenigde Staten achter zouden staan. We zijn hierdoor vol goede moed."
