Fernando Alonso maakt indruk op wereldkampioen Verstappen: "Hij geeft nooit op en blijft vechten"

Max Verstappen pakte dit seizoen zijn allereerste wereldtitel in de Formule 1. De Nederlander kende een superseizoen en veel kenners gunden de Red Bull-coureur dan ook de wereldtitel. Ook zijn collega-coureurs hebben genoten van de prestaties van de Nederlandse kersverse wereldkampioen.

Vooral Alpine-coureur Fernando Alonso sprak regelmatig zijn bewondering voor Verstappen uit. De Spaanse tweevoudig wereldkampioen keerde dit jaar terug in de koningsklasse van de autosport en liet zien dat hij het zeker nog niet verleerd is. Hij maakte het Lewis Hamilton heel erg lastig in Hongarije en reed in Qatar zelfs naar het podium.

Vriendschap

Verstappen is ook heel erg onder de indruk van Alonso. In een eindejaarsinterview met CarNext bespreekt hij met David Coulthard zijn band met Alonso. De woorden van Verstappen zijn niets anders dan lovend: "Momenteel heb ik een hele mooie vriendschap met Fernando. Ik geniet echt van zijn stijl, hij geeft nooit op en blijft maar vechten."

Alonso was dit jaar vooral veroordeeld tot de felle middenveld-gevechten. Verstappen vindt dat zonde: "Helaas heeft hij zich de afgelopen jaren niet vooraan kunnen laten zien. Hij had er de auto niet voor. Ik vind zijn houding nog steeds mooi. Ondanks zijn leeftijd heeft hij nog steeds de motivatie om te winnen en in de Formule 1 te blijven. Altijd doet hij zijn best, als je het mij vraagt is dat heel erg tof om te zien."

Vond het mooi om te zien hoe Max reageerde toen Alonso er aan kwam lopen om hem nogmaals te feliciteren. Hij zag hem, zette zijn blikje neer, glunderde van oor tot oor en toen werd er geknuffeld.
Die twee kunnen echt goed met elkaar opschieten. Alonso vliegt ook vaak met hem mee in zijn jet.

  Over zijn jet gesproken. Max is gisteren naar Limburg gevlogen, naar zijn ouders en zus en haar vriend en vanmiddag is hij vanuit Maastricht "even" naar Salzburg gevlogen.
  Op Servus TV was net een documentaire van een klein uur over hem te zien en aansluitend zit hij in Hangar 7 samen met Helmut Marko.
