Ocon gaat de strijd aan: "Hoeven niet bang meer te zijn"

Aankomend seizoen zal de Formule 1 er waarschijnlijk heel erg anders uit zien dan voorheen. Er gaan immers nieuwe regelementen gelden waardoor iedereen praktisch op nul begint. Sommige teams ruiken hun kans en willen de aanval wagen op de huidige topteams en willen strijden voor de overwinningen.

Ook het team van Alpine wil de stap hogerop wagen. De Franse renstal kende afgelopen seizoen een zeer redelijk seizoen met zelfs een verrassende overwinning. Esteban Ocon won tot zijn eigen verbazing de Hongaarse Grand Prix. Hij betrad daarna niet meer het podium maar reed wel enkele sterke races.

Vertrouwen

Voor het aankomende seizoen is Ocon in ieder geval vol vertrouwen. De Fransman heeft in 2021 geleerd hoe hij met de toppers kan strijden. In gesprek met RACER spreekt de enkelvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar zich vol vertrouwen uit: "We kunnen vechten met de topteams en de topauto's. We kunnen dat doen zonder dat we bang hoeven te zijn."

Schouders

Het vertrouwen is door 2021 alleen maar gegroeid bij Ocon. Hij neemt ook de ervaring van zijn Hongaarse overwinning mee naar het komende seizoen: "We weten hoe het voelt en we hebben niet zo heel erg veel druk op onze schouders. We kunnen gewoon ons werk gaan doen en het laten gebeuren."
