Norris verwacht nieuwe statements na schrappen knielmoment

Afgelopen week maakte de Formule 1 bekend dat men aankomend seizoen stopt met het knielmoment voorafgaand de races. De coureurs kregen de afgelopen twee seizoenen de kans om voorafgaand de wedstrijd op een knie te gaan zitten. Het was een statement tegen racisme, geïnspireerd op de acties van American Football-speler Colin Kaepernick.

Sinds 2020 deden de Formule 1-coureurs hieraan mee nadat de wereld werd gechoqueerd door de moord op George Floyd. De sport zelf kwam met de campagne 'We Race As One' en daarmee willen ze nu stappen gaan zetten. Het is de bedoeling dat men woorden gaan omzetten in daden.

GPDA

Niet alle coureurs knielden de afgelopen seizoenen voorafgaand de races. Lando Norris was wél één van de knielers. De Britse McLaren-coureur sloot zich aan bij het initiatief. Hij verwacht dat de coureurs met een passend vervolg op deze actie zullen komen. Tegenover Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich af: "Ik weet nog niet wat we van plan zijn. We hebben binnenkort met de GPDA gesprekken met de Formule 1 over wat de plannen zijn. Wij moeten als coureurs dit soort zaken naar voren brengen om ze bespreekbaar te maken. Wij komen dagelijks op tv dus we willen en kunnen dit bereiken."

Andere manieren

Norris heeft er echter alle vertrouwen in. De Brit verwacht dat er echter snel een oplossing gaat komen over nieuwe acties: "De sport heeft in de winter ongetwijfeld nagedacht over nieuwe manieren om een gebaar te maken. Ik weet nog niet hoe het eruit komt te zien dus het is nog veel te vroeg om er iets over te zeggen. Naast knielen zijn er waarschijnlijk ook nog andere manieren om dingen aan het licht te brengen."

Grand Prix van Bahrein nog zeker 14(!) jaar op Formule 1-kalender.
De Grand Prix van Bahrein blijft nog jaren op de Formule 1-kalender staan.
Met een contractverlenging tot en met 2036 is het momenteel de race met de langst doorlopende verbintenis.

Ik denk dat ze voortaan met zijn allen in een kring gaan staan en dan hand in hand een lied ten gehore zullen brengen.
Ze zoeken alleen nog een songwriter, een zanger en een danser. Liefst ook nog een pianist en bij voorkeur iemand die de minderheid vertegenwoordigd en maatschappelijk betrokken is.
Oh wacht… er is 1 man die dat allemaal belichaamd!
Probleem opgelost. Ben benieuwd naar het lied!

Vond het goed om zo’n statement te maken, maar na een tijdje is het uitgewerkt en dus is het verstandig om er mee te stoppen.
Het knielmoment vervangen door een ander knielmoment voor de race is geen stoppen.

Verzin dan ook echt wat anders en alleen als er weer echt wat speelt. Geen actie om het actievoeren.
Als het niet exclusief blijft dan zal het nauwelijks impact hebben...

Ben er wel sterk voor om de strijd tegen discriminatie onverminderd voort te zetten, maar dat geldt niet alleen voor de coureurs en de F1, maar voor ieder weldenkend mens.

  Totale nonsense dat topsporters het nodig vinden om een z.g. "statement" te maken inzake discriminatie.
  Dat krijg je n.l. nooit de wereld uit omdat de gediscrimineerden vaak zelf het hardst discrimineren en deze wereld wel grotere problemen kent.
