Grosjean lovend over Andretti: "Fabriek beter dan bij sommige F1-teams"

Afgelopen weekend kwam er groot nieuws naar buiten vanuit Amerika. Het team van Andretti heeft namelijk nog steeds verregaande interesse in de Formule 1. Michael Andretti heeft volgens zijn vader Mario een startbewijs aangevraagd voor 2024 bij de FIA, de autosportfederatie lijkt echter niet zo happig te zijn.

Afgelopen jaar leek de Amerikaanse renstal van de legendarische renstal de sport al te gaan betreden. Men was in gesprek met het team van Sauber om het team over te nemen. Alle seinen stonden lange tijd op groen maar op het allerlaatste moment kwam er toch een kink in de kabel en ging het feestje niet door. Het was een bittere teleurstelling voor de Amerikanen.

Infrastructuur

Nu willen ze dus een poging gaan wagen met een eigen team. Het is nog niet duidelijk of er witte rook komt maar de geluiden over de ploeg zijn positief. Romain Grosjean rijdt aankomend seizoen voor het team in de Indycars. De Fransman heeft jarenlang in de Formule 1 gereden en hij kan de zaken dan ook goed vergelijken. Tegenover The Race is hij positief: "Vanaf het eerste moment dat ik Andretti bezocht stond ik perplex. Door de fabriek, door alles. De fabriek is beter dan ik heb gezien bij sommige teams in de Formule 1, qua infrastructuur dan."

Details

Het lijkt er in ieder geval op dat Grosjean niet betrokken is bij het mogelijke Formule 1-project. De Fransman weet namelijk niet meer dan de rest van de wereld. Hij spreekt zich er over uit op zeer duidelijke wijze. "Ik wist dat Michael Andretti dingen probeerde bij Sauber en ik heb daarnaast ook hetzelfde nieuws gelezen als iedereen. Maar ik kan echter niet meer details met iedereen delen."

De vraag is volgens mij waarom de FIA "niet zo happig" lijkt te zijn. Immers is een Amerikaans F1 team de manier om meer Amerikanen te interesseren in de sport.

De uitspraken van een Grosjean in deze zegt natuurlijk weinig omdat ondanks dat het een van de coureurs is die daadwerkelijk bezig is met de ontwikkeling van de auto en degene was die bij Haas deze autoriteit kreeg als het om het coureursperspectief ging, is het maar de vraag wat snapt van hoe een organisatie werkt in termen van het in plaats hebben van de juiste middelen in termen van productiemiddelen, mensen en het geld.

Andretti is een organisatie die uiteindelijk financieel verantwoord gerund moet worden, en als ze geen F1-waardige windtunnel nodig hebben, waarom zouden ze deze dan bouwen? Slecht voorbeeld, want je kan ook gewoon bij bijv. TMG je auto testen, maar denk ook aan wat je nodig hebt qua CFD-gerelateerde middelen en de juiste mensen die daarmee kunnen werken en daar aerodynamische toepassingen voor op de auto kunnen ontwerpen. Of mensen die een expertise hebben als het gaat om het ontwerp van de implementatie van de aandrijflijn.

Andretti is volgens mij alleen actief in klassen waarin je dit soort dingen helemaal niet zelf hoeft te ontwerpen (of überhaupt mág ontwerpen). Dus als Grosjean zegt dat de organisatie beter is dan bij sommige F1 teams, wat zegt dit? F1 teams, inclusief een Haas die alles bij Dallara laat doen, hebben heel andere factoren waar ze mee te maken hebben om hun organisatie op niveau te krijgen om uiteindelijk deze auto op de baan te krijgen.

  Eigenlijk zegt de fabriek, als hij puur over de productiefaciliteiten heeft, helemaal niets. Er is een reden dat bijv. STR/AT deze gewoon in Italië gehouden heeft terwijl ze de ontwerpafdeling in Bicester hebben.

  Mij niet echt duidelijk wat hij precies bedoelt met “qua infrastructuur “ Das vrij ruim in te vullen. Als ze puur assemblage doen en chassis en aero ergens anders worden ontwikkeld en gebouwd (zoals met Indycar het allemaal Dallara is) heb je al die faciliteiten niet nodig. Daarom met het oog op f1 wil Andretti een overname doen van een team wat die zaken wel heeft.

  Omdat je met een nieuw team vraagstukken krijgt ober de verdeling van prijzengeld en je altijd te dealen hebt met instabiliteit als het kleien spelers zijn. Daarom is een licentie ook zo duur en keizen nieuwe spelers meestal voor hey overnemen van een team. De entryfee van 200 miljoen om andere teams te compenseren is een ander middel voor deze beide zaken. Uiteindelijk willen ze dus een groot automerk wel toelaten en geen kansloze kleine initiatieven, denk ik.
