Grosjean overweegt geen Magnussen-move: "Ik zou het niet doen"

Het team van Haas zadelde zichzelf deze maand op met een probleem door het ontslag van Nikita Mazepin. Door de exit van de Rus had de Amerikaanse renstal immers ineens een stoeltje vrij, niet ideaal zo vlak voor de seizoenstart. Echter vond de ploeg al snel een nieuwe teamgenoot voor Mick Schumacher en dat werd een opvallende naam.

Afgelopen week stelde Haas immers Kevin Magnussen aan als tweede coureur. De Deen reed al eerder voor de Amerikaanse renstal en zijn vertrek verliep niet geheel vlekkeloos. Eind 2020 kreeg hij geen contractverlening omdat Haas geld nodig had, hij werd opgevolgd door Mazepin. Nu is hij echter terug en zijn comeback zorgt voor veel lachende gezichten in de autosportwereld.

Op zijn plek

Ook zijn voormalig Haas-teamgenoot Romain Grosjean is blij voor de Deen. Grosjean is momenteel actief in de Indycars en dat doet hij niet slecht. De Fransman sluit een vergelijkbare move dan ook uit, hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsport Week: "Heel veel mensen hebben mij gevraagd of ik terug zou komen. Ik zou dat dus niet doen. Ik ben heel erg op mijn plek in Amerika, ik ben op mijn plek in de Indycar. Het is zo vet dat ik elk weekend de kans krijg om de race te winnen. Ik heb een prachtige loopbaan gehad in de Formule 1, alle races liggen achter mij en het is een enorm onderdeel van mijn leven."

Blij

Grosjean is wel blij voor zijn voormalige teammaatje Magnussen. Het duo vocht jarenlang een strijd uit bij Haas en dat ging niet zonder slag of stoot. "Ik denk dat het geweldig is, ik ben zo blij voor Kevin. Hij is een fantastische gozer. We hadden het niet altijd gezellig, we hadden allebei een andere blik op hoe je om moet gaan met teamgenoten. We raakten elkaar een paar keer en we hebben besproken hoe het is om teamgenootjes te zijn. Vanaf dat moment verliep alles goed."

  Maar niemand zit idd te wachten op Grosjean. Hij is zich nooit bewust van zijn omgeving en hoewel die toch een behoorlijk potje kan sturen, is het toch wel een grote kans dat deze man je miljoenen aan schade kost. Andretti heeft de eerste onnodige bonnetjes ook al mogen betalen in St. Pete.

In tegenstelling tot Magnussen rijdt Grosjean in een mega competitieve race serie. Die door elke deelnemende coureur gewonnen kan worden op een eerlijke manier. Waar niemand op tilt slaat als in de laatste ronden door een safety car een verrassende winnaar uit de bus komt. Alle sportief ingestelde coureurs zullen de Indycars leuker vinden dan de door macht en politiek bedorven F1.

  Helemaal mee eens JMF
  
  GRO rijdt in een top team in de Indycars die gaat niet bij een achterhoede team in de F1 willen rijden. MAG deed slechts een beetje sportscar in Amerika en heeft dus niets te verliezen met zijn rentree in de F1.
  
  Beste coureurs rijden in de WRC is mijn mening.

  Het klopt dat de auto’s in de IndyCar meer gelijk zijn en een coureur van het niveau Grosjean dus meer kans heeft @D@nny.
  
  Maar in de F1 is ook wel vast komen te staan dat Romain niet tot de beste coureurs ter wereld behoort, integendeel.
  Dat heeft hij zelf ook wel begrepen en daarom heeft hij ook eieren voor zijn geld gekozen en doet hij nu wellicht bovenstaande uitspraak.
  
  Uitgerangeerde F1-coureurs kunnen (soms) nog wel in de IndyCar terecht, omgekeerd niet.
  
  Neemt trouwens niet weg dat het wel interessant is om ook de IndyCar te volgen…
