Marko ziet achterstand: "We geloven dat we de oorzaak kennen"

De strijd tussen de teams van Ferrari en Red Bull Racing gaat in Monaco onverminderd door. Tijdens de eerste twee vrije trainingen was Ferrari overduidelijk de snelste van de twee topteams. Thuisrijder Charles Leclerc reed in allebei de trainingen de snelste tijd, overduidelijk sneller dan Red Bull.

Red Bull-kopman Max Verstappen kwam tweemaal niet verder dan de vierde tijd. Tevens moest de Nederlandse WK-leider in beide trainingen teamgenoot Sergio Perez voor laten gaan. Het was dan ook geen vrijdag om tevreden mee te zijn en dat is men bij Red Bull dan ook niet, er is werk aan de winkel voor de Oostenrijkse renstal.

Balans

Bij Red Bull weet men in ieder geval wat er moet gebeuren om beter voor de dag te komen. Teamadviseur Helmut Marko heeft ook nog wat goed nieuws te melden in gesprek met de internationale media: "Over een enkel rondje liggen we momenteel veel te ver achter op Leclerc. Tijdens de longruns waren wij op de mediums heel erg duidelijk wat beter. Nu moeten wij de balans gaan oplossen. Wij hebben bij Max bewust wat uitgeprobeerd met de afstelling maar dat ging niet de gehoopte kant op."

Marko zag dat de uitprobeersels van het team niet het gewenste effect hadden. Sterker nog, het ging juist helemaal de verkeerde kant op. De eerlijke Oostenrijker deelt de problemen met de internationale pers: "In bocht 1 hadden we last van onderstuur en daarna weer van overstuur. Maar na de eerste training was de balans verslechterd. De veranderingen hebben het dus niet verbeterd."

Oorzaak

Morgen is het belangrijk om goed voor de dag te komen tijdens de kwalificatie, een goede startpositie is immers van groot belang in Monaco. Marko weet waar men nog dingen kan verbeteren: "Het draait vooral om de eerste sector. We geloven echter dat wij wel de oorzaak ervan weten. Ferrari reed nog wat cool down rondjes maar het zag er duidelijk beter uit dan Max. Het ligt aan het opwarmen van de banden en ook aan het feit dat de Ferrari makkelijker te besturen is. Ze kunnen daardoor in de eerste ronde gelijk op gang komen."

Marko weet wel hoe hij morgen de pole kan stelen. Vorig jaar steelde hij hier ook de overwinning van Hamilton, en daarmee later de wereldtitel.

  Je bedoelt Hamilton die oa hier (èn in Hongarije, èn in Baku) zijn wereldtitel vergooide na een qualificatie op P7, terwijl zijn teammaat gewoon vanaf P3 startte, maar later de schuld aan Masi gaf, zodat het leek alsof hij zelf niet geblunderd had?

  Maar als de leiding met de uitslag gaat bemoeien, is een ander verhaal, heb je als coureur geen invloed op. ;-)

Nou, dan heeft Max van vorige week weer goedgemaakt. Hij heeft Perez nu ook twee keren voor laten gaan.

Sainz is anders ook een stuk sneller. Zelf Perez is sneller. Ferrari verslaan zal te lastig worden dit weekend denk ik. Niets forceren en zorgen dat je 15 punten pakt. Het is makkelijk om hier over de limiet te gaan op jacht naar de pole.
