Leclerc: "Binotto moet beslissen over team orders"

Mattia Binotto zal moeten beslissen of Ferrari teamorders gaat geven aan Carlos Sainz en Charles Leclerc of niet. De grote angst in Italië is dat als het team uit Maranello geen teamorders geeft, het zichzelf in de vingers snijdt in de strijd met Red Bull Racing.

Ferrari is dit weekend het te kloppen team in Monaco en het ziet er vooralsnog niet uit dat Red Bull in staat zal zijn om een aanval te doen op de leiding in de race van later deze middag. Inhalen is schier onmogelijk in het Prinsendom, zeker gezien de bredere wagens van dit jaar. Charles Leclerc wordt door zijn pole position gezien als de favoriet, maar zelf wil hij daar niet over nadenken: "Ik weet niet of we favoriet zijn, maar ik denk dat er verrassingen zullen komen."

De Monegask kreeg eerder dit weekend ook de vraag of Ferrari teamorders zou moeten invoeren, zoals Red Bull Racing vorige week deed in Spanje. Het zou voor een wending in het kampioenschap en binnen de F1 kunnen zorgen doordat het Italiaanse team tot nu toe heeft gesteld dat niet te willen doen.

Leclerc reageerde erop, maar wijst naar zijn teambaas: "Ik neem die beslissingen niet - dat moet je aan Mattia Binotto vragen. Ik heb nergens over gesproken of iets gehoord. Red Bull heeft zijn intenties duidelijk gemaakt, en het is een kwestie van tijd voordat Carlos zich meer op zijn gemak voelt in de auto. Maar daar wil ik het ook niet van laten afhangen."

Monaco moet blijven

Tot slot denkt de 24-jarige niet dat vandaag voor het laatst in het vorstendom zal worden gereden, waar hij geboren is en nog steeds woont. De allerlaatste Grand Prix van Monaco zal het niet worden.De Ferrari-coureur: "Formule 1 is geen Formule 1 zonder Monaco. Er is geen ander circuit dat meer adrenaline genereert voor de coureur in de kwalificatie, maar ook de race is erg leuk en één van de grootste uitdagingen voor een coureur."

  Nee ik ben alleen voor Max. maar ik herken talent wel hoor, en dan zeg ik het ook gewoon. Ik werd alleen voor verleden jaar helemaal zat van dat Mercedes en Hamilton, die wonnen gewoon te veel. maar ik heb nooit gezegd dat Lewis een slechte rijder is, integegenstelling zelfs.

  Zonder Hamilton was het nooit zo’n heftig seizoen geweest, en zeg nou zelf, een 7 voudig kampioen verslaan en het einde maken aan een hegemonie. Hoeveel extra glans en status geeft dat aan Verstappens eerste titel :) (anderen zullen wellicht dan weer de seizoensfinale erbij slepen;))
  Alleen Alonso deed ooit iets soortgelijks (van wat ik van de f1 heb meegemaakt)
  Max regendans heeft gewerkt vrees ik.
