Horner verklapt succes: "Draaide allemaal om snelle reactie"

Het team van Red Bull Racing verliet Monaco als de grote winnaar. De Oostenrijkse renstal zag hun coureurs Sergio Perez en Max Verstappen sterk voor de dag komen op de zondag. Tevens profiteerde het team van de strategische fouten van de concurrentie van Ferrari.

Perez won zijn eerste Grand Prix van het seizoen in een weekend waarin hij net iets sneller was dan Verstappen. De Nederlander kwam op zijn beurt als derde over de finish en bleef daarmee zijn WK-rivaal Charles Leclerc voor. Verstappen kon dan ook zijn voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap iets uitbreiden. Bij Red Bull overheerste na afloop vooral veel tevredenheid over het verloop van de race.

Trots

Teambaas Christian Horner toonde na afloop ook zijn trots. De succesvolle Brit zag dat zijn team perfect reageerde op de omstandigheden. Horner kan dan ook niets anders doen dan zijn complimenten delen. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik ben sowieso altijd al trots op het feit dat wij een aanvallend team zijn. We hebben geprobeerd het in de basis goed te doen, of het nou gaat om de strategie of de pitstops. Het ging allemaal om snel reageren op de situatie en dat heeft ons team briljant gedaan. De coureurs hebben hier natuurlijk aan bijgedragen."

Ferrari verslaan

Perez kan op veel complimenten van zijn teambaas rekenen. Horner had daarnaast ook niet verwacht dat allebei zijn coureurs een Ferrari versloegen. Perez hield immers Carlos Sainz achter zich en Verstappen versloeg Leclerc. Horner is trots: "Ik dacht wel dat we er in ieder geval één konden verslaan, maar allebei had ik niet verwacht. We profiteerden natuurlijk van hun fouten maar het leek er ook eventjes op dat ze allebei Sainz zouden verslaan. Het zat allemaal dicht bij elkaar."

Ik denk niet dat Perez werd opgeofferd.
Hannah is daar het hoofdstrategie en deze dame schrijft zelf haar eigen software en algoritmes. Dit combineert ze met de data die ze uit Engeland ontvangt en analyseert alles vervolgens in minder dan geen tijd.

Moeten ze wel eerlijk blijven. Verstappen volgde Leclerc op strategie. Dus Perez moest de druk er op zetten via de eerste wissel. Dat viel uit als beste. Perez werd 'opgeofferd' maar bleek de beste strategie te hebben. Dus het was een defensieve strategie die het beste is gebleken.

  Zij doet de hele race niks anders dan elk rondje opnieuw uitrekenen wat de beste strategie is op dat specifieke moment. Deze geniale vrouw is echt een wonderkind en dusdanig goed dat het vorig jaar al leek alsof Mercedes een stel idioten aan de muur had zitten en dit jaar lijkt het alsof dat het geval is bij Ferrari.
  Dat is natuurlijk niet zo, Hannah is gewoon zo briljant.
  Ze wist dat Perez direct naar binnen moest en daarmee de leiding kon pakken.
  RB luistert inmiddels blindelings naar haar en dat blijkt bijna elke race een gouden zet.
  Normaliter zou ik je gedachtengang volgen maar Hannah is zo goed dat ik nu eerder geneigd ben om te geloven dat ze exact wisten wie ze wanneer naar binnen moesten halen en dat de call voor Perez geen angst of zwakte of wanhoop was maar koelbloedige berekening.

  Zonder software was ook duidelijk dat de Inter de keuze voor dat moment was. Toen ik Gasly zag op de Inters zat ik al te brullen voor de TV dat ze Leclerc naar binnen moesten halen, toen ging Perez en deden ze t nog niet. Toen wist ik al dat t klaar was. Zonder software.
  Kan er nog steeds niet bij dat ik dat als amateur zie en een F1 strateeg niet.

  @Alflonzi, Je moet er ook rekening mee houden dat je na je pitsstop niet achter een Russel of Norris komt te zitten die nog op full wets rijden. want dan rij je op dat moment langzamer dan dat ze op kop doen.

  @da_bartman: Perez kwam ook acher Norris te zitten, maar die kreeg een teamorder van Red Bull om als de sodemieter te pitten. Zo gaan die dingen.

  Het is me blijkbaar niet gelukt om het punt wat ik wilde maken over het voetlicht te krijgen. Verstappen volgt Leclerc. WK is prio 1. Perez moest wel. Een defensieve strategie die prima uitpakte. 'Opgeofferd' staat daarom ook tussen haakjes.
