Horner niet bezig met sieradenzaak: "Het is een persoonlijke keuze"

In de Formule 1-wereld ging het de afgelopen maanden veelvuldig over een maatregel die werd aangescherpt door de nieuwe wedstrijdleiding. Het gaat hier over de regels omtrent het dragen van sieraden en niet brandwerend ondergoed. De aangescherpte regels konden op veel kritiek van de coureurs rekenen.

Vooral zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton was niet te spreken over de aangescherpte regels. De Britse Mercedes-coureur draagt veel sieraden en was niet van plan deze te verwijderen. Hamilton werd gedwongen door de FIA maar kreeg wel uitstel tot de Grand Prix van Monaco. Uiteindelijk hoefde Hamilton zijn permanente piercings toch niet te verwijderen, de FIA gaat nog eens goed naar de regels kijken.

Niet iedereen is even actief bezig met deze discussie. Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner maakt zich er bijvoorbeeld niet zo druk om. De Brit besprak de situatie bij Sky Sports: "Dit is een zaak van de FIA. Als het iets te maken heeft met de veiligheid, dan is het meestal een zaak voor hen. Ik maak mij er niet zo druk om. Het is echt een persoonlijke keuze. Ik kan mij voorstellen dat als je iets in je mond hebt, je kan stikken. Maar verder heb ik er niet echt een mening over."

Ben Sulayem

Horner ziet dat dit soort zaken sterker worden aangepakt sinds het aantreden van Mohammed Ben Sulayem als FIA-president. De Red Bull-teambaas ziet dat er veel aandacht naar hem uitgaat: "Hij mengt zich hierin. Er is een heleboel aan de hand in onze sport en hij moest snel op gang komen. Er zijn nogal een aantal grote zaken waarmee hij nu bezig is."

Hoop dat de FIA snel met duidelijkheid komt of ze dit wel/niet gaan handhaven. Ben we klaar met dat hele sieraden gezeik.
