Marko duidelijk na nieuw contract Perez: "Max meestal de snelste"

Het team van Red Bull Racing is momenteel bezig met een zeer sterk seizoen. De Oostenrijkse renstal gaat met Max Verstappen aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap, ook bij de constructeurs gaan ze aan de leiding. Dat komt mede door de goede prestaties van tweede coureur Sergio Perez.

Perez is dit seizoen zeer sterk, de ervaren Mexicaan heeft weinig moeite met de huidige auto en kan Verstappen aardig bijhouden. Anderhalve week geleden won Perez dan ook de Grand Prix van Monaco en mede daardoor staat hij nu derde in het wereldkampioenschap. De Mexicaan kreeg vorige week nog meer goed nieuws, hij kreeg immers contractverlenging tot en met 2024.

De uitstekende huidige vorm van Perez klinkt als muziek in de oren van Red Bull. Teamadviseur Helmut Marko is tegenover het Duitse Formel1.de dan ook duidelijk over de reden van de contractverlenging: "Het contract is niet binnen een dag opgesteld. Hij heeft een enorm betrokken manager, die mengt zich ook in het gesprek. Het nieuwe contract kwam voort uit het feit dat Checo door de nieuwe auto dichter op Verstappen zit. Het is duidelijk dat we ook de constructeurstitel willen winnen. Ook vanuit een financieel oogpunt want onze werknemers krijgen een bonus bij die titel. Je moet er dan voor zorgen dat je het sterkste rijdersduo hebt."

Titelrivalen

Het rijdersduo is momenteel dan ook zo sterk dat beide coureurs een grote kans hebben op de wereldtitel. Marko verwacht echter niet dat Verstappen en Perez elkaars titelrivaal gaan worden: "Je vergeet dat Verstappen al twee keer de finish niet heeft gehaald. Hij lag toen allebei de keren op de tweede plaats. Als hij de punten had gepakt, dan was de afstand met Perez groter. Maar dat verandert niets aan het feit dat Checo een geweldig seizoen heeft. Toch, als het op pure snelheid aankomt is Max meestal de snelste."

Kijk, dat denk ik dus niet.
Hoewel ik Sergio niet uitvlak komt hij toch wel wat te kort op Max.

  Dat is niet waar, Russell is namelijk groter met 1.85m, terwijl Max 1.81m is.
  Max komt dus tekort op Russell.

  Dat kun je toch pas echt concluderen als hij het hele huidige rijdersveld als teamgenoten heeft gehad, zal dan de mindere goden op het veld even laten voor wat ze zijn , maar Charles en Lando kunnen zeker net zo snel als Max

Perez is een prima coureur, maar het hele titelkandidaat verhaal vind ik echt complete lariekoek. Perez spint in de kwalificatie en verpest daarmee de ronde van een aantal andere coureurs (waaronder max). Vervolgens komt Perez 1e als gevolg van een goede RB strategie en geklungel door FER. Op Monaco vervolgens niet in te halen. En nu is Perez in ene een titelkandidaat. Perez moet het hebben van de fouten van anderen en komt op pure racecraft overal net te kort. De titelkandidaten zijn voor mij enkel Leclerc of Max.
