Marko looft Verstappen: "Hij is in zijn hoofd een stapje verder"

Max Verstappen is dit weekend de grote favoriet voor de Britse Grand Prix. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur gaat immers aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap en wist de afgelopen twee races op zijn naam te schrijven. In het thuisland van zijn voormalige rivaal Lewis Hamilton wil hij toeslaan.

Bij Verstappens team Red Bull hebben ze tevens veel vertrouwen in het weekend. De Oostenrijkse formatie introduceert in Silverstone veel nieuwe updates en de kans op nieuwe successen is dan ook groot. De topmannen van het team tonen zich relaxt en Verstappen was tijdens de persmomenten eveneens de rust zelve.

Stapje verder

Teamadviseur Helmut Marko begrijpt wel dat zijn Nederlandse coureur de grote favoriet is in het Britse Grand Prix-weekend. De Oostenrijker spreekt zich lovend uit in gesprek met zijn landgenoten van Kronen Zeitung: "Het is geen verrassing dat hij de grote favoriet is. Max is in zijn hoofd altijd een stapje verder. Hij kan ongelofelijk presteren onder druk en hij weet altijd het overzicht te behouden. Daardoor weet hij de banden en remmen altijd in leven te houden."

Nuchter

De mentale kracht van de Nederlander is volgens Marko zijn grootste kracht. De teamadviseur ziet dan ook dat Verstappen op elk vlak zeer sterk in zijn schoenen staat: "Max is mentaal ook ongelofelijk sterk. Als hij een bocht op de limiet neemt dan is het daarna al weer verleden tijd voor hem. In zijn hoofd is hij al een stap verder, hij is dan meteen al in de volgende bocht. Maar ondanks zijn jonge leeftijd en zijn financiële en sportieve succes is hij heel erg nuchter."

Ja en hij gaat nu waarschijnlijk de vruchten plukken. Verleden jaar eigenlijk al. Hopenlijk in niet te dominant materiaal. want dat gaat saai worden. Wel mooi dat alles lijkt uit te komen wat er al vanaf 2016 werd gezegd door sommige die gelijk als gek werden weggezet: geef hem het materiaal en hij doet het wel. 24 jaar pas. en nu al 1 van de beste allertijden. en ja daar behoort hij al toe, vraag het maar aan elke rijder of oud rijder.

Dat is een goed gekozen woord wat ik maar weinig langs hoor komen: overzicht. Dat zie je bij meerdere grote coureurs: die behielden 'het overzicht'. We hebben het vaak over de fysieke kwaliteiten van een coureur: of hij bovenmaats veel uit een auto kan persen, of hij goed kan inhalen of verdedigen, maar zelden snijden we het thema 'overzicht' aan.

Het is inderdaad opmerkelijk waar te nemen waar types als Alonso, Verstappen, Vettel en Hamilton zijn met hun hoofd tijdens hun races. Echter, het grote verschil is -vind ik- dat de anderen dat kweekten nadat ze wereldkampioen werden, terwijl bij Max het meer lijkt dat hij het al lang had en daarom wereldkampioen zou gaan worden.

  Dat zie je ook in de races, hij kijkt al naar het eind van de race in het begin van de race, terwijl de meeste rijders alleen met het moment op zich bezig zijn en proberen om een bepaalde sector hard te rijden om daarna weer langzamer te gaan, Max heeft dit niet, die kan heel constand een bepaald tempo rijden, in de testen zie je dat ook terug bij hem, hij kan 20 rondes rijden die maar 0.100 van elkaar af zitten, puur op gevoel. dus mee eens, het lijkt wel aangeboren.

  Precies dit! Dat is ook waarom alle kenners hem op 16/17 jarige leeftijd al als een toekomstig kampioen zagen.

Deze gast gaat alles en iedereen de vernieling in rijden en daarbij maakt het echt niet uit in wat voor machine.
