Norris wil af van sausage kerbs: "Tijd om te reageren op waarschuwingen"

Veiligheid is een van de belangrijkste onderwerpen van de autosport. Meerdere coureurs beginnen nu te twijfelen aan de veiligheid van één bepaalde kerbstone. De aanleiding voor deze twijfel is een crash in het WEC tijdens de 6 uur van Monza afgelopen weekend. De crash volgde een week na een spraakmakend incident in de Formule 2.

In Monza ging het mis met de Portugese Aston Martin-coureur Henrique Chaves. Hij ging de fout in en werd gelanceerd door een sausage kerb. De wagen sloeg over de kop maar hij kon ongedeerd uitstappen. Een week eerder werd Dennis Hauger in Silverstone gelanceerd door een sausage kerb waardoor hij tegen de Halo van Roy Nissany aanvloog. 

Waarschuwingen

McLaren-coureur Lando Norris hoopt dan ook dat er snel een einde komt aan de beruchte sausage kerbs. De Brit is er in zijn column voor de Britse krant The Telegraph nogal duidelijk over: "In het verleden ben ik wel vaker kritisch geweest op deze verhoogde kerbs. Ik denk dat het tijd is dat we eens gaan reageren op deze waarschuwingen door ze uit onze sport te verwijderen. De crash van Chaves was de tweede in twee weken. Op Silverstone crashte Hauger in de Formule 2 toen hij de kerb raakte."

Norris ziet dat de sausage kerbs voor grote problemen kunnen zorgen met de huidige Formule 1-wagens. Vooralsnog zijn grote incidenten uitgebleven maar Norris wil actie zien: "Nu de Formule 1-wagens lager en stijver zijn dan ooit moeten we actie ondernemen. Als we in deze auto's de kerbs raken, dan rijd je er niet overheen. Je kan zomaar worden gelanceerd. Auto's kunnen wheelies maken en dan op de grond slaan. Dat is heel pijnlijk voor je rug."

    Mensen al de mooie vlieg actie gezien op SPA, dankzij de nieuwe drempels in de raidillon bocht aan de buitenkant?

    Dat word echt een F1 wagen het publiek in, als daar wat gebeurd.

      Het ongeluk kreeg ik via whatsapp, net onderzoek gedaan en dat is een crash uit 2018:P dus dat klopte niet. mijn excuses.

      Kunnen ze heel Paul Ricard niet vol gooien met grind, dus ook de baan, zodat ze wel moeten uitwijken naar Circuit Dijon-Prenois?

      De GP van Frankrijk heeft alleen toekomst als ze het circuit van Dijon-Prenois updaten...

      Mooie compilatie. Ik kan er met mn kop niet bij dat die ondingen nog steeds gebruikt worden. Levensgevaarlijk zijn ze.

      Die lancering van Alex Peroni is misschien nog wel een van de meest angstaanjagende. Hield hij hier ook geen gebroken reggewervel aan over? Of was dat een van de dames uit de W-series?

      Hoe dan ook, die krengen lanceren racewagens. Vorige week nog gezien met Hauger in de F2 en vorig jaar belandde Max op Lewis' halo door zo'n kreng.
