Norris voelt zich relaxter door langdurig contract

Lando Norris is wederom bezig met een sterk seizoen bij het team van McLaren. De getalenteerde Brit is veel sneller dan zijn teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo en hij eindigde in Imola op het podium. Eveneens heeft Norris een langdurig contract bij McLaren waardoor hij tot 2025 onder de pannen is.

Het langdurige contract geeft Norris zeer veel rust. De Brit sprak eerder zeer openlijk over zijn mentale problemen en kreeg daar veel lof voor. Het nieuwe contract zorgt ervoor dat hij veel minder stress heeft dan voorheen. Zijn resultaten leiden er niet onder en de jonge Brit laat zien één van de grootste talenten van het veld te zijn.

Toekomst

Norris zelf geeft ook eerlijk toe dat het goed met hem gaat. De Britse McLaren-coureur bespreekt zijn huidige situatie in gesprek met Motorsport.com: "Mijn gevoel zegt dat ik er goed aan heb gedaan door hier langer te blijven. Ik geniet er echt van, voor mij is dat het belangrijkste. Elk jaar kijk ik weer uit naar wat er in de toekomst gaat gebeuren. Ik word steeds optimistischer over waar we kunnen eindigen."

Privéleven

Het langdurige contract zorgt er ook voor dat Norris weet waar hij aan toe is. De Brit geeft aan dat dit hem ook in zijn privéleven heeft geholpen: "Ik voel mij relaxter. Voor mijn gevoel presteer ik best goed. Ik lever wanneer dat moet en ik voel mij ontspannen op de baan. Ik kan ook een goed en fijn leven leiden en ik kan meer relaxen als ik niet in de Formule 1 ben. Ik denk minder over wat er beter moet. Ik denk minder over wanneer ik ergens iets verkeerd heb gedaan. Eerder was dat wel zo."

Dat kan ik me wel voorstellen. Daarom heeft Bottas het oa ook zo naar zijn zin bij Alfa. Die man heeft jarenlang de onzekerheid gehad dat hij voor het volgend seizoen nog geen contract had.

Een kampioenschap is hem gegund. Maar wat is de kans? De designers zijn net als Ferrari ruim een jaar bezig geweest met de huidige auto. Voorlopig maakt Key zijn talent nog niet waar. Heeft niet meer dan een gemiddelde job gedaan.
Zelf zie ik McLaren niet dominant worden. En dat is nodig wil Norris een kans maken met rijders als Hamilton, Leclerc en Verstappen in de andere wagens met potentie. Norris kon daar niet heen. En zo te zien weet Norris dat een kampioenschap er voorlopig niet in zit. Blijkt ook wel door zijn opmerking dat hij minder nadenkt over wat beter moet. Dat is juist wat winnaar types doen.
Hopelijk zijn er verrassingen die mij het ongelijk geven.

Overigens zolang Zak de baas is daar heeft het team niet mijn sympathie.

  In het begin vond ik Zak een leuke, vrolijke, welbespraakte vent,
  maar dat heeft maar heel even geduurd.
  Ben het met je eens @Ouw, mocht hem al heel snel niet meer.
