Seidl hoopt op komst Porsche en Audi: "Zou heel erg goed zijn voor de Formule 1"

Afgelopen week werden de nieuwe motorregels voor 2026 officieel goed gekeurd door het World Motor Sport Council. Daarmee wordt de deur ook wagenwijd open gezet voor de komst van Volkswagen Group-merken Audi en Porsche. De mogelijke komst van de twee merken wordt toegejuicht, ook door McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl.

Het lijkt erop dat Porsche gaat samenwerking met Red Bull Racing. Audi gaat de zaakjes waarschijnlijk iets anders aanpakken. In tegenstelling tot Porsche wil men namelijk niet aan de slag gaan als motorleverancier. Audi zou naar verluid graag een bestaand team willen overnemen. Het lijkt erop dat men het team van Sauber gaat overnemen, eerder werd ook het team van McLaren genoemd.

Enthousiast

Bij McLaren zou men de komst van de nieuwe mogelijke concurrenten toejuichen. McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl werkte eerder bij Porsche aan het LMP1-project. Hij is enthousiast en wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Het zou simpelweg heel erg goed zijn voor de Formule 1. Voor ons als deelnemers zou het ook heel erg goed zijn als merken zoals Porsche en Audi de Formule 1 gaan betreden."

Seidl was in het verleden betrokken bij de successen van Porsche op Le Mans en kent het merk dan ook door en door. De McLaren-teambaas hoopt op de komst van zijn voormalige werkgever Porsche: "Ik ben zelf onderdeel geweest van een strijd tussen Porsche en Audi. Dat was echt geweldig en als ze weer hetzelfde gaan doen, dan zou ik er zeker met bovengemiddelde interesse naar kijken als fan."

Wordt altijd een beetje verdrietig als Sauber op zo een manier in het nieuws komt.
Vond het altijd een prachtig team waarvoor ik heel veel sympathie had totdat dhr Sauber zich meer begon terug te trekken en steeds meer verantwoording gaf aan Mevr. Caltenborn en het helemaal bergafwaarts ging.
Wat een wanbeleid was dat zeg. Oke Sauber is zolangzamerhand te oud en hoop ik dat zijn kindje met behulp van Audi nog een mooie toekomst tegemoet gaat.
