Ocon hoopt op comeback Franse Grand Prix: "We hebben Le Mans met de benodigde infrastructuur"

Eerder deze week werd duidelijk dat de Franse Grand Prix aankomend seizoen niet terugkeert op de Formule 1-kalender. De race op het circuit van Paul Ricard stond al geruime tijd onder druk. De kalender van de Formule 1 is in de afgelopen jaren flink veranderd en meerdere races staan onder druk.

De Franse Grand Prix is nu de eerste race die officieel zijn waterloo vindt. Naast de race in Frankrijk staat ook de Belgische Grand Prix flink onder druk. Het Formule 1-circus is dit weekend neergestreken op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps en veel coureurs zijn groot fan van het circuit. Men hoopt dan ook dat België niet van de kalender gaat verdwijnen.

De Franse Alpine-coureur Esteban Ocon baalt van het wegvallen van zijn thuisrace. In België besprak Ocon het verdwijnen van zijn thuisrace. In gesprek met de internationale media is Ocon duidelijk: "Het is jammer. We verwachtten het al maar het is niet het einde. We hebben een enorme automobielgeschiedenis in Frankrijk dus het is goed mogelijk dat de race terug gaat keren. Misschien niet op Paul Ricard, maar het komt terug. We hebben Le Mans met alle benodigde infrastructuur. Het is niet moeilijk om daar een race te organiseren."

De lange omloop is inderdaad veel te lang, de korte omloop is echter weer veel te kort.
Maar goed, Ocon heeft het dan ook over de infrastructuur.
Toegangswegen voldoen prima dus de bereikbaarheid is in orde.
Parkeergelegenheid in overvloed.
En het lokale friettentje heeft heerlijke patatten.

    Het is inderdaad een gemis dat een land met een motorsportgeschiedenis, 1 team en 2 coureurs niet meer op de kalender zal staan. Wat betreft Le Mans; Circuit de la Sarthe is veels te lang, maar je hebt nog het kortere Circuit Bugatti die in 1967 een keer gebruikt is voor de Franse GP. Is echter een FIA Grade 2 circuit die nu vooral geschikt (gemaakt) is voor motorracen.

      @Larry, afgelopen week daar nog langs gereden.
      Helaas nog geen seconde aan dit circuit gedacht.

    Ik meende dat het dan de Motogp versie (Bugatti) zou moeten worden. De La Sarthe zou te moeilijk zijn om het tot Grade 1 te krijgen.
