Verstappen gaf De Vries motivatiespeech voorafgaand Italiaanse Grand Prix

Max Verstappen was afgelopen weekend niet de enige Nederlandse coureur in de Formule 1. Naast Verstappen stond immers ook Nyck De Vries aan de start van de Italiaanse Grand Prix. De Vries mocht invallen bij Williams en dat deed hij naar behoren. Hij werd negende en ontving de complimenten. Verstappen had hem eerder tips gegeven.

Verstappen en De Vries kennen elkaar goed. De twee coureurs wonen allebei in Monaco en delen vanzelfsprekend de Nederlandse nationaliteit. Verstappen sprak vlak voor de race met zijn goede vriend en landgenoot. De twee coureurs spraken elkaar op de grid rondom de ceremonie van het volkslied.

Genieten

Na afloop van de race was Verstappen zeer trots op zijn landgenoot. Hij was dan ook niet te beroerd om te ontvallen wat hij tegen De Vries had gezegd. Op de persconferentie voor de top drie was hij duidelijk: "Ten eerste moet je genieten en er niet al teveel over nadenken. Je moet niet teveel stressen. Ik kan mij mijn eerste race nog voor de geest halen. Alles gebeurt zo snel. Je moet tegen jezelf zeggen dat je wel ziet wat er gaat gebeuren in plaats van in de stress schieten."

Motivatiespeech

Verstappen weet precies wat er door het hoofd van een debuterend coureur schiet. De regerend wereldkampioen was er na afloop duidelijk over. De Red Bull-coureur kroop in de gedachtes van een debutant: "Ik heb een goede start nodig. Ik heb een goede eerste ronde nodig. Je moet daar niet aandenken en ik denk dat hij alles heel erg goed aanpakte. We kennen elkaar goed dus het was een soort motivatiespeech."

Max en Nyck zijn al jaren goed bevriend. Max had nog een tijdje een relatie met de zusje van Nyck.
