Norris moet bijkomen na P4: "Zwaarste race uit mijn loopbaan"

De Grand Prix van Singapore verliep vandaag zeer chaotisch. Veel coureurs maakten een foutje of belandden in de muur. Eén van de coureurs die vrijwel foutloos bleef was Lando Norris. De Britse McLaren-coureur reed een ijzersterke race en kwam als vierde over de finish. Hij was vanzelfsprekend tevreden.

Norris kreeg tijdens de uitgestelde Grand Prix van Singapore genoeg airtime. De Brit vocht lange tijd een duel uit met Max Verstappen en hij vocht daarna ook nog met Lewis Hamilton en Carlos Sainz. McLaren had daarna geluk met een Safety Car-fase waardoor ze zonder al te veel grote problemen een pitstop konden maken zonder tijdverlies.

Zwaar

Na afloop van de fysiek zware Grand Prix zat Norris er aardig doorheen. De Brit was zeer moe en moest eventjes bijkomen voordat hij sprak met Sky Sports: "Dit was by far de zwaarste race uit mijn loopbaan. Ik zou zeggen dat dit de zwaarste is in de Formule 1. Niet omdat je hard moet verdedigen tegenover andere coureurs maar omdat je je volledig moet concentreren van begin tot eind. Dat al helemaal als je moe begint te woorden."

Virtual Safety Car

Norris is zich bewust van het feit dat hij en zijn team veel geluk hadden met de Virtuele Safety Car. De Brit zag dat ook zijn teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo ervan kon profiteren: "We hadden geluk dat we een pitstop konden maken tijdens de Virtuele Safety Car. Niet veel coureurs konden dat doen. Dat zorgde ervoor dat ik wat dichterbij kon komen bij Sainz. Ik was wat sneller in de eerste paar rondjes. Hij kon zijn banden niet helemaal onder controle krijgen."

  Ik had precies hetzelfde. Leek de banden beter op temperatuur te hebben na de laatste keer back on green... maar helaas.
  
  Mooi om te zien dat alle coureurs een keer moe uit te auto komen. Alleen daarom vind ik Singapore erbij passen op de kalender.

  Eens, en dan denk ik als eerste aan Mercedes waar hij dan het duel maar moet aangaan met Russell.
  Vraag is dan natuurlijk: hoe lang gaat Hamilton nog door?
