Marko verwacht veel van Verstappen: "Hij heeft al zoveel meegemaakt"

Max Verstappen kan vandaag zijn tweede wereldtitel pakken in Japan. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur start vanaf de pole position en gaat dus vanuit de best mogelijke positie op titeljacht. Bij Red Bull heeft men zeer veel vertrouwen in een mogelijke titelprolongatie in Japan. Helmut Marko verwacht veel van Verstappen.

Verstappen kon in theorie al wereldkampioen worden in Singapore vorige week. In de kletsnatte stadsstaat liep alles echter in de soep. Verstappen is nu al beter begonnen aan het weekend en hij oogde zeer sterk in de vrije trainingen. Alle ogen zijn vandaag dan ook op hem gericht, hijzelf blijft echter zeer kalm en rustig.

Nederland

Ook Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko kijkt vandaag naar zijn stercoureur. De Oostenrijkse adviseur denkt dat Verstappen prima kan omgaan met de druk. Bij ServusTV spreekt Marko zich uit: "Max heeft al zoveel meegemaakt, denk bijvoorbeeld aan de race in Nederland waar hij de druk van een hele natie op zijn schouders had staan. Hij weet dat zonder problemen weg te stoppen. Dat kan hij hier dus ook."

Honda

De kans is tevens nog aanwezig dat Verstappens titeldroom vandaag geen realiteit gaat worden. Marko denkt echter dat die tweede wereldtitel er dit seizoen hoe dan ook gaat komen: "Mocht het hier in Japan niet gebeuren, dan lukt het tijdens de volgende race wel. Het zou mooi zijn voor Honda. Je ziet hoeveel beleving er is bij de supporters. We zien dat de meeste merchandise hier blauw is. We voelen ons dus thuis!"
