Norris wil presteren in 2024: "Eerste jaar waarin we geen excuses meer hebben"

Lando Norris is wederom bezig met een sterk seizoen in dienst van McLaren. De Brit kan nog niet meevechten voor de zeges maar hij hoopt dit in de toekomst wel te kunnen doen. Norris heeft 2024 op het oog als het jaar waarin men bij McLaren weer mee moet gaan vechten voor de zeges.

McLaren was jarenlang één van de topteams in de Formule 1 maar na het mislukte avontuur met Honda vielen ze in een diep gat. Inmiddels gaat het weer wat beter met de renstal en is Norris de man die de kar moet trekken. De Brit was vorig seizoen ijzersterk en hij staat momenteel op de zevende plaats in het wereldkampioenschap en daarmee is hij weer best of the rest.

2024

McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl gaf al eerder aan dat het team zijn zinnen heeft gezet op 2024. Ook Norris heeft dat jaartal op het oog en hij is er eerlijk over in gesprek met Auto, Motor und Sport: "Ik ben het daarmee eens, honderd procent. Dat is ons eerste jaar waarin we geen excuses meer hebben. Momenteel hebben we nog wel goede excuses. We kijken altijd naar wat we beter kunnen doen, in 2024 is het eerste jaar waarin we op hetzelfde niveau van de topteams zitten qua infrastructuur. De rest is aan ons, de mensen die hier werken."

Van topteam naar achterhoede, naar middenmoot naar constante overwinningskandidaat is iets dat Ferrari in dezelfde periodiek ten minste twee keer is gelukt.
