Ideale opvolger Latifi vaker in actie voor Williams

Williams-pupil Logan Sargeant gaat in 2022 nog twee VT1-sessies rijden en de Young Driver Test na afloop van het seizoen. De Amerikaanse Formule 2-racewinnaar debuteerde vrijdag voor het eerst tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend. De ideale opvolger van Nicolas Latifi legde 23 ronden af op het Circuit of the Americas.

Een week later mag Sargeant opnieuw opdraven in Mexico-Stad en bij de laatste ontmoeting in Abu Dhabi. De talentvolle rijder neemt de FW44 van Alex Albon over in Mexico en de auto van Latifi in Abu Dhabi. De Young Driver Test is dit jaar weer op het Yas Marina Circuit.

Ook krijgt het Williams-talent een aantal privétestdagen en hij van het team blijven helpen gedurende de weekemden en zijn voortdurende ontwikkelingswerk als Williams Academy-coureur ondersteunen.

Sargeant reageerde zich verheugd op dit nieuws. "Ik wil graag beginnen met Williams Racing en Dorilton Motor Sports nogmaals te bedanken voor het feit dat ze me gisteren de kans hebben gegeven om hier bij COTA op het thuisveld te rijden", deelde hij mee. “Het was een van de leukste momenten uit mijn carrière tot nu toe. Ik ben erg dankbaar dat ik meer tijd heb gekregen in de FW44 in Mexico en Abu Dhabi."

“Mijn doel is om elke minuut in de auto en met het team optimaal te benutten om voort te bouwen op de vooruitgang die ik heb geboekt in Austin en gedurende mijn tijd in de simulator in Grove."

"Natuurlijk ligt mijn focus op het beëindigen van mijn Formule 2-seizoen in Abu Dhabi in de best mogelijke positie, en ik weet zeker dat mijn tijd in de FW44 me scherp en klaar zal houden voor de F2-finale."

Sargeant staat poleposition voor een zitje bij Williams voor 2023, maar moet daarvoor nog wel zijn superlicentie behalen via de Formule 2. Vooralsnog staat de Amerikaan derde wat genoeg is voor het 'papiertje', maar concurrentie achter hem zitten dicht op zijn hielen. Het is dus nog geen absolute zekerheid.

Denk prima voor de marketing in Amerika, maar echt een talent voor de f1? Hij heeft leuke dingen laten zien afgelopen jaar. Dat zeker en wie weet kan hij nog wat groeien. Leuke rijder voor middenmoot. Zeker beter dan latifi!
