Ricciardo maakt indruk op Seidl: "Dit was belangrijk voor hem en voor ons"

Daniel Ricciardo werd afgelopen weekend tot Driver of the Day verkozen in Mexico. De Australiër kwam als zevende over de streep na een tijdstraf van tien seconden. Zijn ijzersterke race kwam hem op veel complimenten te staan, ook zijn teambaas Andreas Seidl was lyrisch.

Ricciardo leek af te stevenen op wederom een teleurstellend weekend in Mexico. De Australische McLaren-coureur is bezig met een uiterst teleurstellend seizoen en na zijn crash met Yuki Tsunoda en de bijbehorende tijdstraf leek zijn middag als een nachtkaars uit te gaan. Niets bleek minder waar want Ricciardo haalde coureur na coureur in en behield ondanks zijn tijdstraf van tien seconden zijn positie.

Norris

De prestatie van Ricciardo kon op veel lof rekenen. De fans verkozen hem tot Driver of the Day en bij McLaren was iedereen zeer trots. Teambaas Andreas Seidl spreekt zich uit bij Sky Duitsland: "Als we naar dit weekend kijken, dan zag je dat hij al vanaf de eerste ronde dezelfde pace had als Lando Norris. In de kwalificatie had hij de pech dat hij Q3 op een haar na misliep. Hij voelde zich het hele weekend goed."

Joker

Seidl zag dat Ricciardo vooral na zijn wissel naar de softs over het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez vloog. Seidl denkt dat Ricciardo daar echt het verschil maakte: "De laatste stint op de zachte banden was echt de joker. Dit zorgde er namelijk voor dat hij in staat was om de ene coureur na de andere coureur in te halen. Dit was belangrijk voor hem en voor ons. Het zijn ook belangrijke punten, we hebben er veel meer gepakt dan Alpine."

Daniël reed eindelijk weer eens een mooie race. Hij leek haast wel bevrijd.
Natuurlijk, de actie op Yuki was veel te opportuun en bijna amateuristisch maar in ieder geval reed hij met het mes tussen de tanden. Hij wilde weer en ging ervoor. Zo hoort het ook. De dood of de gladiolen. Dit keer waren het de gladiolen. Ik vond het mooi en waardig. Plusje voor honingdas 🦡

  hij reed inderdaad eindelijk eens een keer niet als een natte zaterdag editie van de telegraaf in de rondte, werd een keer tijd, maar nog steeds geen enkele reden tot het drinken van een shoey. Hoogstens een (bescheiden) plusje van Jimmy.

  geeft gwn een beetje aan dat het over het algemeen armoe troef was afgelopen race dat niemand anders dan Ricci in aanmerking kwam voor DOTD

  Tsunoda uit de race beukte! Aan de kant, ik moet er voorbij!
  En dan ook nog DOTD worden! Absurd.

  je zag ook aan die move dat het niet met volle overtuiging was zeer onbezonnen en jammer voor Yuki, erna leek het alsof hij de knop omdraaide als een wervelwind kwam zelf behoorlijk stuk dichter bij de beide Ferrari's, reed minstens 15sec dicht ..
