O'Ward kijkt uit naar trainingsdebuut: "Eerste stapje richting racezitje"

Afgelopen weekend werd in Mexico-Stad de Mexicaanse Grand Prix verreden. Het aanwezige publiek juichte voor thuisrijder Sergio Perez. Men hoopt in de toekomst te kunnen juichen voor nog meer landgenoten, Patricio O'Ward rijdt in Abu Dhabi een vrije training voor McLaren en hij heeft zijn zinnen gezet op de koningsklasse van de autosport.

O'Ward wordt al geruime tijd in verband gebracht met de Formule 1. De Mexicaan rijdt momenteel in de Amerikaanse Indycar voor McLaren en daar gooit hij hoge ogen. Vorig seizoen mocht hij al de Young Driver Test na het seizoen voor zijn rekening nemen voor McLaren. Dit jaar mag hij in Abu Dhabi voor het eerst een officiële sessie afwerken voor McLaren.

O'Ward komt door de aanstaande vrije training in Abu Dhabi dicht in de buurt van een superlicentie. De Mexicaan kijkt uit naar zijn aanstaande vrije training en in de F1 Nation Podcast kan hij zijn enthousiasme amper verbergen: "Man, ik heb er zoveel zin in! Het wordt mijn eerste officiële test in de Formule 1. Het is een van de eerste stapjes in de richting van een racezitje. We gaan zeker de goede richting op. Ik kijk er gewoon enorm naar uit. Ik wil ervan genieten en het team helpen."
