Norris vreest voor Interlagos vanwege moeilijkheden auto

Met de Grands Prix van Brazilië en Abu Dhabi resterend en beide kampioenschappen beslist, lijkt het er in grote lijnen op dat er niet meer zoveel spanning in de Formule 1 is. Echter komt het gevecht om de vierde plek in het constructeurskampioenschap meer en meer tot een climax. Alpine en McLaren zijn aan elkaar gewaagd en dat blijkt: met het inkomen van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix staat Alpine zeven magere puntjes boven McLaren. Lando Norris verwacht dat zijn team van McLaren waarschijnlijk een niet al te best weekend zal hebben op circuit Interlagos.

Ondanks dat McLaren verrassend genoeg de laatste vier van de vijf races is ingelopen op Alpine, is McLaren’s Lando Norris niet al te positief over aankomend weekend. “Ik zou niet zeggen dat Brazilië past bij de balans en de moeilijkheden van onze auto”, vertelt Norris tegen media waaronder RaceFans. “De afgelopen paar races hadden we niet de snellere auto of waren we snel genoeg – we hebben simpelweg met onze strategie en betrouwbaarheid van de auto betere resultaten behaald.”

Vooral in de tweede seizoenshelft lijkt de A522 van Alpine in ieder geval op het gebied van prestatie de overhand te hebben, dit volgens teambaas Otmar Szafnauer vanwege ‘de focus op het ontwikkelen van kracht in plaats van betrouwbaarheid’. De afgelopen vijf races heeft Alpine maar liefst vier DNF’s moeten incasseren, een sterk contrast in vergelijking met McLaren’s 1. Hierdoor zal de uitkomst van het gevecht onderling niet alleen aankomen op prestatie, maar ook simpelweg op het feit of de krachtbron in leven blijft. Aankomend weekend bij de Grand Prix van Brazilië zal het blijken of Alpine verder afstand kan nemen van haar concurrent, of dat McLaren langzaam nóg dichterbij kan komen.

Ben zo blij dat we Interlagos nog op de kalender hebben. Het is het enige oldskool F1 circuit die sinds 1990 NIET gewijzigd is op een paar extra asfaltuitloopstroken na. Je kan er ook nog eens goed inhalen, daarvoor hebben ze Hermann Tilke niet nodig.

Banen als circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Monaco en de Hungaroring zijn ook nog aardig hetzelfde gebleven sinds 1990 maar hebben WEL lichte layout wijzigingen ondergaan.

James Key vs Pat Fry die door Renault/Alpine overgenomen is en feitelijk verantwoordelijk was voor de terugkeer van McLaren in de subtop... is het verschil in hoe goed deze twee zijn wat we hier zien? Ik denk dat de Mercedesmotor nog steeds beter is dan de Renault, wat een extra factor is.

  Voorlopig zijn er gewoon 3 teams het best geweest en daar zitten Alpine en McLaren niet bij. Ze hebben gewoon niet de beste mensen. Hooguit een topper. Maar niet veel hebben de structuur en de leiders als Ferrari, Mercedes en Red Bull.

  Eens met @snailer hoewel de infrastructuur van McLaren nog maar net is geupgrade met de nieuwe windtunnel en ook hun simulatie naar de nieuwste normen is gezet. Dat gaat zeker helpen in de volgende jaren naast het feit dat ze wat meer CFD en windtunnel mogelijkheden hebben.
  
  Maar zal het qua rendement inspanning/performantie met de 3 toppers zeer moeilijk zijn om bij te benen. Geloof ook dat Piastri een nieuwe diamant is die samen met Norris het team verder kan helpen te groeien. De BC werkt de laatste tijd heel remmend voor dit team dat bij aanvang van het seizoen veel updates bracht.

  Het is niet zo dat McLaren helemaal geen windtunnel tot hun beschikking heeft natuurlijk. En zomaar nieuwe mensen aantrekken gaat niet gebeuren. Met de cap is dat extra lastig, maar ik neem aan dat ze gewoon dezelfde mensen zullen gebruiken die nu de data via TMG verwerken.
