Marko verwacht zege van Verstappen: "Duidelijk sneller dan de Haas"

Max Verstappen start de sprint van vandaag vanaf de tweede plaats. Hij start naast de verrassende polesitter Kevin Magnussen op de eerste startrij. Bij het team van Red Bull Racing maakt niemand zich echter zorgen over een goed resultaat, Helmut Marko verwacht dat Verstappen goed voor de dag gaat komen.

Verstappen toonde zich snel tijdens de kwalificatie in Brazilië. De Nederlandse wereldkampioen reed onverstoord over het circuit maar kon zich, net als zijn rivalen, niet verbeteren door de rode vlag en de regenval. Hij zag hoe Kevin Magnussen de pole position claimde en hij leek daar wel vrede mee te hebben.

Onderstuur

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko verwacht in ieder geval dat er nog veel kan gebeuren in het restant van het Grand Prix-weekend. Bij de Duitse tak van Sky Sports spreekt de Oostenrijker zich uit: "Er is nog veel mogelijk. We hadden enorm veel last van onderstuur en we hebben dat niet kunnen oplossen met de afstelling. We weten dat Max niet houdt van onderstuur, zonder het verremmen had hij de pole gepakt."

Sneller

Marko verwacht echter weinig problemen in de sprint van later vandaag. De Oostenrijker denkt dat Verstappen veel sneller is dan polesitter Magnussen: "We zijn duidelijk veel sneller dan de Haas. Kevin Magnussen is een harde vechter. Hij gaat met iedereen de strijd aan. Maar Max gaat ervoor zonder al te veel risico's te nemen. Ik denk dat hij de zege in de sprint gewoon gaat pakken."

  Waarom zou Russell dat doen?
  Nu Lewis heeft aangegeven nog lang bij Mercedes te willen blijven maakt Russell zich geen enkele illusie meer. Hij gaat alleen nog maar voor eigen succes en heeft dus helemaal niks aan het eraf tetsen van Max. Hij gaat dat echt niet doen om Lewis te helpen of Toto te plezieren. Kortom, George zal ook heelhuids de eerste bochten door willen en een goede startpositie voor zondag willen vergaren. Dat zelfde geldt voor Kevin die gewoon hoopt in de top 5 te kunnen eindigen en zo voorin te starten morgen.
  Daarnaast is Max inmiddels zo sterk dat niemand het gevecht met hem aan gaat want het kost je alleen maar bandenslijtage en zinloos performance verlies.
  Dus ja, Marko heeft gelijk. Dit moet gewoon een simpele zege voor Max worden en Max op zijn beurt zal geduldig en veilig die eerste twee bochten door gaan.

  Gaat een gemakkelijke worden voor Max. De pole is een overwinning voor Haas, daarna zal hij zoveel mogelijk punten willen incasseren. Dat gaat niet lukken door Max meerdere bochten op te houden - dat zal hij vanaf de Alpines beginnen doen

  Als jullie er echt verstand van hadden, had je voor de kwalificatie wel voorspeld dat er een Haas op pole zou staan. Laten we gewoon gaan kijken wat er gebeurd, dat Verstappen een goede kanshebber is snappen we allemaal wel.

Zonder toevalligheden en natte omstandigheden zullen de coureurs in een voorspelbare slagvolgorde de sprintrace finishen en morgen op de grid staan. Alleen Sainz heeft voor zondag een 5p-penalty...
