Niet fitte Norris tevreden met P4: "Voelde me niet zo goed"

Lando Norris kent tot nu toe een bewogen Braziliaans Grand Prix-weekend. De Brit miste de mediadag door ziekte maar reed gisteren een ijzersterke kwalificatie. De Britse McLaren-coureur noteerde de vierde tijd en gaf aan dat hij het gevoel heeft dat er eigenlijk veel meer in het vat zat.

Het was tot gistermiddag hoogstens onzeker of Norris überhaupt wel kon deelnemen aan de kwalificatie in Sao Paulo. Op de mediadag werd Nyck de Vries voorbereid op een invalbeurt, Norris meldde zich gisteren echter in de paddock. De Brit voelde zich iets beter en start de sprint zelf vanaf de vierde plaats.

Niet fit

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was Norris opgewekt. De Brit had niet veel verwacht van de kwalificatie en hij toonde zich dan ook optimistisch tegenover zijn landgenoten van Sky Sports: "Om eerlijk te zijn ben ik heel erg blij met vandaag. Ik voel me eigenlijk niet zo goed. Ik deed dingen die ik niet zou doen als ik mij honderd procent fit voelde. Dingen gingen echter nog steeds naar wens aangezien ik de snelste was in Q1 en ik de tweede tijd reed in Q2."

Risico nemen

Norris denkt dat er meer in het vat zat. De Brit denkt namelijk dat hij een snellere tijd had kunnen noteren dan de uiteindelijke polesitter Kevin Magnussen. Hij is er eerlijk over: "Ik denk dat we lieten zien dat we de snelste kunnen zijn als de condities lastig zijn. Ik was de snelste maar uiteindelijk draaide het om het nemen van een risico. Het ging tussen als eerste de baan op gaan of even wachten. Ik denk dat als we voor de Haas naar buiten zouden zijn gegaan, dat we dan sneller zouden zijn geweest dan de Haas."

  Hij voelde zich niet helemaal goed en dan alsnog dit resultaat. Kun je nagaan wat Nyck had kunnen doen in die oranje kar. Die was boven zichzelf uitgestegen..

  Nyck had zijn gebruikelijke portie exposure al weer binnen.
  
  Goed mogelijk dat zijn naam dit seizoen meer is genoemd dan dat volgend seizoen zal gebeuren indien hij dan in de AT onopvallend rondjes rijdt...

  In VT1 was ook goed te zien dat Norris niet fit was. Leek bij vlagen alsof ie voor het eerst in die auto zat.

  Waarom? Gisteren een erg leuke kwalificatie gezien in plaats van een saaie training. Vandaag een race en morgen een nog leukerdere race!

  Waarom? Omdat het spannender was dan het WK formule 1.
