Norris: Aanvaring met Leclerc was ‘race incident’

McLaren-rijder Lando Norris begon sterk aan de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. Bij de start kwam de coureur goed van zijn plek weg, Norris wist meteen aan Charles Leclerc voorbij te komen. De man van McLaren kreeg de F1-75 van Leclerc bij de herstart in ronde zeven echter weer in zijn nek. Bij het inkomen van sector twee tikte Norris tegen de rechterachterkant van Leclerc’s Ferrari aan, waarna de Ferrari-rijder de muur in vloog. Norris schat de onderlinge touché in als een race incident.

De start van Lando Norris was goed. De op zondag-jarige Brit kwam meteen voorbij aan Charles Leclerc en nam in bocht één zelfs een kijkje bij Red Bull-coureurs Max Verstappen en Sergio Peréz. De safety car werd al in de eerste ronde de baan opgeroepen vanwege de crash tussen Kevin Magnussen en Daniel Ricciardo. De McLaren was bij de herstart van de race in de zevende ronde een “sitting duck” voor Leclerc, die maar wat graag zijn verloren positie terug wou pakken. De twee rijders kwamen in bocht zeven zij aan zij waarbij Leclerc aan de buitenkant zijn poging waagde. Norris tikte de rechtkant van Leclerc’s F1-75 aan waardoor de Monegask de muur in vloog. Beiden konden de race gelukkig verder rijden, tot Norris in de 52^e ronde alsnog moest uitstappen omdat zijn MCL36 de geest gaf.

"Misschien dat we elkaar vijf centimeter meer ruimte konden geven", kijkt Norris op de botsing terug, "maar naar mijn mening was het een race incident. Natuurlijk wou ik geen contact maken en ik bleef zoveel mogelijk op mijn lijn. Mijn start (van de race) was goed, maar over het algemeen was het een teleurstellende zondag", sluit Norris af.

Ik ben het geheel met Norrit eens.
Er was voldoende ruimte maar hij werd door de curb opzij gezet.
Typisch race incident.

  Sowieso spelen Norris en Leclerc blijkbaar geen enkele rol. Het kan niemand iets schelen, gezien het feit dat er totaal geen aandacht voor deze clash is.

  NicoS Ik vond anders wel dat de Ferrari aardig sterk is gebleken. Vond het nog best een klap in de muur om zonder grote schade door te kunnen rijden. Maar ach ja race-incidenten bestaan niet meer vandaag de dag. Er worden zoveel straffen uitgedeeld dat het nog een wonder is dat Latifi niet elke race strafpunten krijgt voor onnodig langzaam rijden...
