Alpine kijkt tevreden terug op Brazilië en vergroot afstand naar McLaren

Afgelopen weekend was het ditmaal de beurt aan Alpine om een goed resultaat te behalen terwijl de concurrent met beide auto’s uitviel. Fernando Alonso en Esteban Ocon scoorden respectievelijk een vijfde en achtste plaats, terwijl McLaren-coureurs Daniel Ricciardo en Lando Norris beiden de race moesten staken. Alonso en Ocon kijken tevreden terug op een goed weekend.

"Een vreemd weekend was het", begint Fernando Alonso in een video op Alpine's Twitterpagina als hij terugkijkt naar afgelopen weekend. Bij de kwalificatie kwam Alonso tekort om een tweede snelle run in Q3 te doen en tijdens de sprintrace kwam hij met teamgenoot Esteban Ocon in aanvaring. Alonso verloor zijn voorvleugel en liep daardoor wat startposities voor de hoofdrace mis. "De punten worden verdeeld op de zondag en ondanks onze sprintrace konden we vandaag het resultaat behalen. Het is een perfecte zondag voor het team, want we finishten in de punten, in tegenstelling tot McLaren die met beide auto’s uitviel. Ik ben blij voor de mensen in mijn team en ga 100% geven in Abu Dhabi", vertelt Alonso tegenover zijn collega van de PR-afdeling.

Net zoals Alonso behaalde ook Ocon een sterk resultaat. De Fransoos had een niet al te beste kwalificatie, maar racete vanaf de zestiende startplek op de zondagmiddag vervolgens terug omhoog naar de achtste plaats. "Het was een geweldige dag voor het team. Veertien punten hebben we behaald, het is een geweldig resultaat. De auto leek te vliegen en ik was in staat om wat mooie inhaalmoves te maken. Ik ben tevreden met hoe de zondag is verlopen. De auto is momenteel sterk en ik voel me lekker achter het stuur", meent Ocon.

Dankzij een behaald puntenaantal van veertien tegenover McLaren’s nul loopt Alpine nóg verder uit in het constructeursklassement. Een voorsprong van negentien punten op McLaren betekent dat de kans groot is voor Alpine om als vierde in het kampioenschap te eindigen.

En dat allemaal dankzij Daniel Ricciardo.
McLaren heeft zich flink in de voet geschoten door Ricciardo te tekenen.
Maar ja, daar zijn ze bij Alpine niet rouwig om.

  Zei het gisteren meteen na zijn crash, war ben ik blij dat hij volgend seizoen niet meer bij McLaren rijdt (ik gun hen daarbuiten het beste).
  Maar moet ook toegeven dat Alpine dit ook verdiend.

  Eens met jullie. Als Ricciardo maar de helft van het aantal punten van Norris had behaald, dan stond McLaren nu nog voor op Alpine. Maar nee, Ricciardo blijft steken op een armzalig aantal van 35 punten tegenover de 113 van Norris. Ik keek er erg naar uit toen Ricciardo zich bij McLaren voegde, maar afgezien van Monza 2021 is het een grote deceptie geworden.

  Alleen omdat Snafzauer hele duidelijke instructies had gegeven gegeven en hoogstpersoonlijk hun ballen eraf zou knippen met een botte snoeischaar als ze het (weer) zouden verprutsen.
  
  Overigens heb ik me flink geirriteerd aan Max dit weekend en ook Lewis ‘ereburger van Brazilië’ Hamilton stond hoog op mijn irritatielijst dit weekend. Russel is een terechte winnaar en Sainz had van mij als 2e mogen eindigen. Maar goed, zoals ik het graag zie gebeurt alleen in mijn dromen. Ik ben overigens wel een beetje klaar met dit seizoen nu. Het duurt me eigenlijk 2 races te lang.

Wat een drama-weekend weer voor McLaren. Ricciardo die zich weer van z'n sufste kant laat zien, en vervolgens laat de betrouwbaarheid Norris in de steek, die overigens voor de rest een prima weekend had. Alpine heeft ook een hoop steken laten vallen dit seizoen, maar in ieder geval zijn de coureurs meer consistent en gewaagd aan elkaar.
